- Bake according to package directions for 9-inch round pans, taking them out of the oven when a toothpick inserted near the middle comes out completely clean. Remove the cake from the oven and set it aside to cool fully
- Remove the square cake from the pan by turning it upside down and peeling away the parchment paper. Place on a big plate, cutting board, or cake board
- set aside.
- Remove the parchment paper from the round cake and turn it out onto a new surface to cool. Slice the circle cake in half and lay each half next to the square cake to make a heart shape. Repeat with the other half of the round cake. If necessary, level the tops of the cakes by chopping a small amount of the tops off to make them more level.
- Frost and decorate the cake as you see fit.

In a large mixing bowl, combine your favorite cake recipe (or a box mix) until well combined.Prepare each pan by lining it with parchment paper and spraying the edges with nonstick spray.Next, evenly distribute your cake batter between the two pans, putting a bit extra batter in the square pan to ensure that your cake batter is the same level in both pans.Bake the cakes according to package directions, taking them out of the oven when a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.Allow the cakes to cool in their pans before turning them out.Make a heart shape by slicing the circle cake in half and placing each half next to adjacent sides of the square cake, as shown in the illustration below.
This cake turned out to be very huge, so I baked it in a 16-inch round cake pan.Instead, you could cover a piece of cardboard (or foam core from the dollar store) with aluminum foil and use that, or you could just lay the cake on a big plate or cutting board to prevent it from falling over.A long knife was also used to slice the rounded tops off the cake so it would be fairly smooth, and then I used a pastry brush to brush off any loose crumbs before icing it (no need for a crumb coat if you frost carefully).

Making heart-shaped cupcakes in a regular cupcake tin isn’t difficult at all!Preparation begins with preheating the oven and mixing the cake batter.Then, using cupcake liners, line a muffin tray with the batter and bake for 20 minutes.Only half of the glasses should be filled (which may means this makes more cupcakes than you are used to).If you add any more, the cupcakes will blow out of their cups and lose their heart-shaped form.After that, cut a couple of 4-inch-wide pieces of aluminum foil from the roll.
Take one strip of aluminum foil and fold it in half lengthwise (hot dog style) three times, resulting in a long, narrow strip of aluminum foil.This should be ripped into 1 inch pieces.Repeat the process until you have 2 pieces for each individual cupcake.
- Take another strip and tear it in half (like a hamburger), then compress each half into a tight ball.
- Repeat with the remaining strips.
- Repeat the process until you have one piece for each individual cupcake.
- In order to form a heart shape, sandwich aluminum foil between the cupcake liners and the cupcake tin as shown below.
Using a standard baking sheet, bake as usual and allow to cool completely before removing from pans.Frost the cake and enjoy!Important Note: To write the word ″love″ on my heart-shaped cupcakes, I melted some chocolate chips in a sandwich baggie and cut a little hole in one corner of the baggie to use as a writing tool.
After that, I ″piped″ the chocolate out.
Method3: Heart shaped cupcake pull-apart cake
19 cupcakes are required for this ″cupcake cake″ creation.Make sure not to overfill them before baking; it is preferable if the tops of the muffins are merely softly rounded rather than the liners being completely filled.Once the cupcakes have been made and cooled, frost them using a star tip in a swirling motion to create the appearance of rosettes on the tops (as shown in the video at the beginning of the post).This is not anything to be terrified by – it is, in fact, rather straightforward!Initially, you can practice on wax paper alone, and then transfer the practice frosting back into your piping bag to apply on the cupcakes once you’ve mastered the technique.As soon as the cupcakes are iced, arrange them so that they create a heart shape, as seen in the photo below: Alternatively, you might make a heart shape out of the cupcakes before icing them and pressing them together as closely as possible.
Then, using a spatula, spread icing on all of the cupcakes, being sure to cover the gaps between the cupcakes as well.This will result in a cake that is truly ″pull-apart.″

To be honest, this approach is a little bit of a cheat because the cake itself isn’t truly in the shape of a heart; but, the adorable sprinkle decoration on top is.Although the technique is simple, it will take just a few minutes to design an entire batch of cupcakes with it.Bake and chill your cupcakes according to package directions.Prepare a couple of heart templates before you begin frosting.Make a square of aluminum foil that is slightly larger than the size of each cupcake.Fold it in half and use a heart-shaped cutter to cut out a heart shape.
When you reopen it, you’ll see that you now have a template for the sprinkling.Frost one cupcake, making sure to smooth out the frosting on the top.Place a foil template on top of the cupcake, gently putting it over the frosting, and then sprinkle on the sprinkles right away.
- As a result, it’s better to perform this on a baking sheet because the excess sprinkles will flow over the borders of the aluminum foil.
- Remove the template off the cupcake and clean it down as needed before reusing it on the next cupcake.

- Add the Vanilla Extract: After that, add the vanilla extract and beat until well combined. In order to ensure that everything is uniformly distributed, you may need to scrape along the edges and bottom of the bowl.
- Add Powdered Sugar and Mix Gently: Add the powdered sugar and mix slowly until it is completely integrated. Gradually raise the speed of the mixer until the mixture is frothy.
Assembly
- Cake Cut in Half: After the cakes have been allowed to cool fully, cut the round cake in half so that you have two equal half circles. Prepare your serving plate by placing the square cake on one side and two half circles on the other to make the rounded section of the heart
- then set the square cake on the serving plate.
- Frost and decorate the cake: Spread a thin layer of frosting over the whole cake to act as a crumb coat, keeping the cake’s loose crumbs in place. Once the entire cake has been coated with a good crumb coat, spread the remaining frosting evenly over the entire cake. Sprinkle and decorate with the sprinkles and decorations of your choosing.
- Set the frosting by placing the cake in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving.

- Mix in the vanilla essence until everything is well-combined. In order to ensure that everything is uniformly distributed, you may need to scrape along the edges and bottom of the bowl.
- Slowly add the powdered sugar into the batter until it is fully integrated. Gradually raise the speed of the mixer until the mixture is frothy.

Check the flavor of the frosting; if you want it to be sweeter, you may need to add a little more powdered sugar to the mixture.It’s the same with the milk; you can always add a bit more to make it more spreadable.Make sure not to overdo it with the milk.I prefer to divide the frosting into many bowls and then hand-mix in the food coloring to achieve the desired hue.Using a knife, ice the cupcakes and transfer the frosting to a piping bag equipped with a star tip to finish decorating the cake.Once the cupcakes are frosted, garnish them with sprinkles and serve them immediately.

Alternatively, you may purchase any pre-made frosting. Have a good time when decorating the cake! I just used some basic natural sprinkles, but you can get as creative as you want with it. I thought these edible stars, or any whimsical sprinkle combination like these, seemed like they would be entertaining. That being said, this cake is very simple to put together and would be ideal for celebrating a loved one’s birthday, Valentine’s Day, or any other occasion where you want to make someone feel special! You can see that they couldn’t keep their hands off of it, as you might imagine! 1 box Red Velvet cake mix, or any cake mix (except angel food), or your favorite 9-inch-square cake recipe.
Cream Cheese Frosting
- 12-ounce cream cheese, melted
- 6-ounce unsalted butter, softened
- 4 teaspoons sour cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (use clear vanilla if you want your frosting to be more white)
- 12 teaspoons confectioners’ sugar
- 14 teaspoon salt
- 1 34 cup powdered sugar (7 ounces)
- 1 34 cup butter
- Preheat the oven according to the directions on the cake mix packaging.
- Remove the parchment paper from the square 8-inch pan and cut another piece to fit the interior of the bottom of a circular 8-inch cake pan. Cooking spray should be sprayed into the center of each pan before placing the parchment paper into the pans to help hold the parchment in place. Then coat each pan and piece of parchment paper with a flour-based nonstick cooking spray, such as Baker’s Joy. If you like, you may butter and flour each pan separately.
- Prepare the cake mix according to the directions on the package. Divide the batter evenly between the two pans that have been prepared. Bake according to package directions. Allow to cool in pans for 10 minutes before carefully removing from pans and allowing to cool completely on cooling racks.
- Prepare the frosting in a food processor or mixer until it is smooth and creamy. Combine the cream cheese, butter, sour cream, vanilla, and salt in a large mixing bowl until thoroughly blended. As required, scrape down the edges of the dish. Mix in the powdered sugar until it is light and fluffy
- Leave the square cake in its whole. Make two half-circles out of the round cake by dividing it in half. Place the flat side of each half-circle against each of the top edges of the square cake, with the square cake orientated as a diamond. This will create a heart form with the square cake. If necessary, make minor adjustments. The icing will hide the seams and other imperfections
- Spread a thin layer of icing over the entire cake to serve as a crumb coat (to keep cake crumbs from appearing in the final layer of frosting). Then, using a second and final coat of frosting, cover the whole cake. Decorate to your liking

Valentine’s Day goodies are one of my favorite things to bake since they provide the ideal reason to satisfy my sweet taste while also getting creative in the kitchen.This year, I made these gorgeous heart-shaped chocolate cupcakes that were surprisingly simple to make (seriously!) owing to a simple approach that just required a muffin pan and a handful of ceramic marbles.Making these cupcakes is made easier by using a Betty Crocker SuperMoist devil’s food cake mix, which reduces the amount of time spent baking.A fast and fluffy buttercream frosting adds a lovely finishing touch.Here’s how to make them from scratch!
