Portillo’s Chocolate Cake & 2 Lou’s Pizzas: Tastes of Chicago

  • Guaranteed 100 percent customer satisfaction for $99.99 All prices include standard shipping, which is included in the price. There is an option for expedited shipment. Two 9-inch Lou Malnati’s deep dish pizzas are included in the package.
  • The following items are required: one heart-shaped Portillo’s chocolate cake layer
  • one pouch of Portillo’s chocolate frosting
  • one spatula for icing your cake

With single pieces, the cake feeds 8-10 people. Instructions for Preparation

  1. Trash the cake layer in a heart shape from the sealed plastic bag, then recycle or discard the bag in the proper recycle or rubbish receptacle. To prevent peeling away the top layer of cake when removing the cake from the plastic wrap, try to remove it slowly and gently.
  2. Place a dollop of frosting on the 10 inch gold cake board that has been supplied. Discard any remaining frosting from the frosting pouch and dab a little bit of frosting, about the size of a nickel, in the middle of a serving plate or cake stand to finish. Tip: This should help to keep the cake from slipping about.
  3. In order to gently soften the frosting if it is too firm, drop the unopened bag in a basin of warm tap water (between 70°F and 85°F) for 10 minutes. Before opening the packet, make sure it is completely dry.
  • Spread the frosting to the edge of your cake, but not all the way around. With the spatula, start in the centre of the cake and work your way out to the edges, spreading the frosting evenly on the top and just past the edge of the top surface. The icing that hangs over the sides of the cake will assist you in frosting the sides of the cake. Tip: You want to carefully press the frosting into the cake while maintaining an uniform hand motion. Try to avoid pressing your fingers into the cake. This might cause cake crumbs to adhere to the frosting and spread throughout the icing, giving it a textured appearance. To remove crumbs from the frosting, scrape the dirty frosting off your spatula and place it in another bowl.
  • Tip: Once again, be liberal with your frost application. While it is always possible to scrape some off if you end up with too much frosting, if you start with too little, you run the danger of drawing crumbs from the cake into the frosting, giving it a textured appearance.
  1. Sections of the sides should be frosted. Consider cutting the cake into quarters and tackling each quarter one at a time, rotating the plate or cake stand as you go. Attempt to coat the cake with icing as soon as possible.
  2. Smooth out the frosting or use it to make any design you choose. After the cake has been frosted, you may go back and decorate it. Smooth down the icing, or add swirls or other textures to make it more interesting. Remove any extra icing from the cake.
  3. Keep the cake at room temperature, covered, and consume it within 1-2 days for the best flavor and texture.

  • Would you believe me if I told you that you can genuinely create this rich, drool-worthy cake at home with only 5 ingredients?
  • Would you believe me?
  • Although it may appear implausible, it is true!
  • I wasn’t sure at first, but after putting it to the test, I’m convinced now.
  1. When your guests come over for a visit, serve them this delicious chocolate cake that is worthy of a restaurant!
  2. In fact, I’d go as far as saying it’s even better than the original.

Portillo’s Chocolate Cake Recipe

If you haven’t had the pleasure of sampling Portillo’s chocolate cake, you are truly missing out.Although the Chicago eatery is well-known for its hot dogs and Italian beef, the chocolate cake is definitely a must-have dessert option.Everything about it is extremely rich, moist, and soft. The icing is very delicious, and the cake itself has the ideal combination of sweetness and chocolaty flavor.

  • This recipe has the same same flavor as the original.
  • Even if it seems like a reach, the finest chocolate cake recipe I’ve ever tried is the one I’m going to share with you today.
  • That is saying a lot because I have tried a lot of different things.
  • The nicest aspect about it is that it is very simple to put together.
  • Have you ever attempted to make a cake with only five ingredients and one bowl?
  1. No?
  2. You’re going to get your wish!

Ingredients

  • Devil’s Food Cake from Betty Crocker. You read it correctly: the finest cake in town is created from a cake mix! Do not fear, I will not reveal your identity if you do not
  • Eggs. They contribute to the cake’s thick and fudgy texture. When baking, always use eggs that are at room temperature
  • mayonnaise. Not to worry, I haven’t lost my mind. The addition of mayonnaise enhances the flavor of the chocolate cake. The oil makes the cake extremely soft, and the vinegar helps to balance out the sweetness of the cake
  • Betty Crocker chocolate frosting is used to decorate the cake. Why bother making your own frosting when you can simply purchase a perfectly fine pre-made icing? I swear to you, this frosting is so delicious, people will believe it is handmade.

Tips to Make the Best Chocolate Cake

  • Make use of room temperature eggs, as they will blend in much better with the batter.
  • Pour in a cup of coffee! The flavor of chocolate is enhanced by the addition of coffee, resulting in a cake that is deeper and richer in flavor. Don’t be concerned, you will not be able to detect any coffee flavor. Just a teaspoon of espresso powder works well in this recipe
  • avoid overmixing the mixture. This might result in a cake that is dry and thick as a result of the baking process. Just combine the ingredients until they are well integrated.
  • While the cakes are baking, avoid opening the oven door. The temperature within the oven will be altered as a result of this.

How to Store Portillo’s Chocolate Cake

Do you want to create this cake ahead of time? It’s not an issue because it keeps very well in the freezer. Here’s how it’s done:

  1. Bake the cake and allow it to cool fully before serving.
  2. Wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and store it in a freezer-safe bag or container until needed. Freeze the cake for up to a month in advance.
  3. When you’re ready to serve the cake, move it to the refrigerator while still wrapped in plastic wrap. Once the cake has been totally thawed, frost it.
  4. Allow the cake to rest at room temperature on the counter for 30 minutes. It is not necessary to refrigerate the cake since the frosting locks in the moisture, allowing the cake to retain its moisture. It is possible to keep chocolate cake at room temperature for up to two days.

Hello, there! Hello, my name is Kim. Running, cooking, and cuddling up with a good book are some of my favorite pastimes. Those who enjoy tasty cuisine but want to keep things simple can find inspiration in my recipes:)

Portillo’s Chocolate Cake Copycat

Advertisement Not only is Portillo’s a restaurant known for its hot dogs and Italian beef, but it also serves a very popular chocolate cake, which you may not have known about. In fact, the Portillo’s chocolate cake is so well-liked that a copycat recipe has been created to replicate it.

An Easy Mayonnaise Cake

The Portillo’s chocolate cake clone is a very simple mayonnaise cake that anybody can make.It is made using Betty Crocker cake mix, eggs, water, and mayonnaise, and it is covered with Betty Crocker frosting from a can. Many former Portillo’s employees report that the recipe is largely accurate, but that the chocolate cake mix used is really Gold Medal, rather than Portillo’s.General Mills brands Gold Medal and Betty Crocker are both cake mix brands, and since the Gold Medal cake mix appears to be more of a product for the restaurant business (I’ve never seen Gold Medal cake mix in a shop), the Betty Crocker cake mix is probably the closest match.

  • Because I was curious, I purchased a slice of Portillo’s chocolate cake and proceeded to make a copycat Portillo’s chocolate cake from scratch.
  • The real-life Portillo’s Chocolate Cake was the first course.

Portillo’s Cake Taste Test

The frosting from Portillo’s did, in fact, taste just like Betty Crocker’s Rich and Creamy Chocolate. As a frosting enthusiast who would eat it in almost any shape, the lazy part of me was relieved that I didn’t have to try to recreate it from scratch.Although you are free to do so (which should go without saying), if you are looking for a close replica, you might want to stay with Betty Crocker. After that, I took a bite of the crumb.

  • It had the same texture as boxed mix, but it was lighter and softer, and it was less sweet and had less artificial flavor.
  • Because the cake is supposed to contain mayonnaise, I assumed that the mayonnaise was doing its intended function of supplying moisture and disguising any chemical tastes.
  • Mayo, you did a fantastic job!
  • Then there came the Betty Crocker Devil’s Food cake, which was a knockoff of the original.
  • Advertisement Some of the clones specify that Betty Crocker Super Moist Butter Recipe Chocolate must be used, while others specify that Betty Crocker Devil’s Food must be used.
  1. I went to three places and couldn’t find the ″Butter Recipe,″ so I substituted Devil’s Food for the original recipe.
  2. I wasn’t too concerned because the ingredient lists for the two varieties were almost identical.

However, the icing on the clone cake was almost precisely the same as the frosting on the original cake, but the crumb was somewhat different. As you can see in the photo, the Portillo’s cake crumb was darker and had larger air bubbles than the other cakes. Is it possible that additional liquid was used?Perhaps they might have used a little extra mayonnaise?

  • Perhaps it was the cake mix itself that caused the problem.
  • Both cakes had a comparable flavor and texture despite their visual differences, with the Betty Crocker cake being somewhat sweeter than the other.
  • In any case, this is a cake that I will make again when I am in the mood for a boxed cake.
  • I assume the original recipe came from Hellmann’s, as they offer the identical recipe on their website, although they use any cake mix instead of the boxed variety.

Six Inch Mayonnaise Cake

Portillos Chocolate Cake: Why Can’t You Refrigerate It?

Portillos is a Chicago-based restaurant company that is known for serving some of the greatest hot dogs in the industry.Additionally, they serve delectable sweets, such as their famed chocolate cake.Portillo’s Chocolate Cake does not need to be refrigerated because it tastes just as excellent cold as it does at room temperature. It is possible that this is not the case for other sorts of cakes, but this one is engineered to endure both refrigerator and freezer conditions.

What is the chocolate cake made of and why can’t it be refrigerated

Restaurant chain Portillos, established in Chicago, is known for serving some of the greatest hot dogs in the city.Additionally, they serve delectable sweets, such as their famous chocolate cake, among other things.Portillo’s Chocolate Cake does not need to be refrigerated because it is delicious even when served cold. It’s possible that this isn’t true for other sorts of cakes, but this one is made to survive both refrigerator and freezer conditions.

So what exactly goes into this chocolate cake?

I’m very pleased you inquired!All-purpose flour, sugar (granulated) and baking soda are the primary components, with other ingredients including vegetable oil (such as maize or canola oil), pure vanilla extract, and big eggs rounding out the list. This is the mixture for Portillo’s renowned chocolate cake, which you can get here.Along with natural flavors to make it taste even better than conventional cakes that include artificial flavoring agents, it also contains nonfat milk solids, which help to maintain the end product’s texture smooth despite its high fat level.

  • All of these ingredients combine to create the exquisite flavor that distinguishes Portillos’ trademark dessert, which does not require refrigeration.

Why can’t it be refrigerated?

It is generally agreed that cakes and other sweets with a high fat content taste best when served cooled. The chocolate cake from Portillos is no different, with the exception of one important distinction: due of its high oil content, it should be stored at room temperature rather than in the refrigerator or freezer. If you’re used to refrigerating your own cakes, it may be difficult to think that this recipe doesn’t require any further cooling after baking because many of the components add moisture rather than removing it (like eggs).

Why can Portillo’s Chocolate Cake last up to four days?

This cake can keep at room temperature for three to four days without going bad, but if you want it to last even longer and avoid spoiling, keep in mind that Portillo’s Chocolate Cake freezes nicely — just like the hot dogs, of course!Simply wrap a slice in aluminum foil or place it inside an airtight plastic bag before freezing it to ensure that it does not dry out during the freezing process.

THE SECRET TO STRAWBERRY BUTTERCREAM

In my previous cake-baking career, I spent a significant amount of time attempting to make strawberry frosting, and I failed badly every time.I’ve never been able to achieve the correct ratio of strawberries to sugar and butter in order to have outstanding flavor while also avoiding a sloooow, drippy disaster on the counter top or table.I even experimented with strawberry puree, but the results were still disappointing. As previously said, I failed badly.
