Making non-dairy ice cream requires a great deal of trial and error (as well as fine-tuning) in order to get the rich creaminess of traditional ice cream without the use of milk or cream. Not everyone has the ability to pull it off, but the objects on this list are capable.Prepare a bowl and a spoon for the greatest non-dairy ice creams you’ve ever tasted. When it comes to ice cream, it’s no surprise to find Ben & Jerry’s at the top of any ″best ice cream″ list, and the frozen dessert kings have done it again with their rendition of ″Milk″ and Cookies. In contrast to the majority of non-dairy ice creams, which are produced with coconut or almond milk as a foundation, the vanilla-flavored ″milk″ in this ice cream is really created with sunflower oil.Chocolate chip cookies, chocolate sandwich cookies, and chocolate cookie swirls are all included in the recipe.
Ben & Jerry’s also sells two more flavors that are based on sunflower butter: Crème Brûlée Cookie and Mint Chocolate Cookie.Additionally, there are 12 other almond milk tastes to choose from, like P.B.& Cookies and the millennial-inspired Netflix & Chilll’d, which has peanut butter, sweet and salty pretzel swirls, and fudge brownies, among others.Almond milk used to be the plant-based milk of choice, but oat milk is quickly displacing almond milk as the preferred plant-based milk alternative, and Oatly is one of the companies leading the effort.
- Oatly, hitherto known solely as a maker of non-dairy beverages, has expanded its product line to include frozen desserts.
- OAT-LY!
- is made with only a few simple ingredients, such as oat milk, coconut oil, sugar, and vanilla beans.
- Vanilla ice cream is rich, creamy, and indulgent, and it has everything you might desire in an ice cream flavor.

- In addition to vanilla, Oatly provides flavors such as Mint Chip, Chocolate Chip, Coffee, Strawberry, Chocolate, and Salted Saramel, as well as a variety of other options.
- Cado ice cream distinguishes itself from the competition since its primary component is avocado, rather than plant-based milk.
- Avocado puree and oil are used to make this chocolate treat, which is then refined with organic cane sugar, organic cocoa powder and other ingredients to get the right balance of sweetness and flavor.
- As a result, the flavor is rich and chocolatey, with no discernible touch of avocado.
- If you’re looking for something a bit more daring, Cado also has flavors such as Salted Caramel, Java Chip, Vanilla Bean, Cookies & Cream, Cherry Amaretto Chip, Simply Lemon, and Mint Chocolate Chip to choose from as well.
- Chocolate and vanilla are two of the most popular ice cream flavors, but if you’re looking for something a little more decadent, Haagen-Dazs Chocolate Salted Fudge Truffle is always a good choice.
A Belgian chocolate base is used as the primary component instead of almond, coconut, or oat, with swirls of salted caramel fudge and bits of chocolate fudge truffle mixed in.Ultimately, the outcome is a luxuriously rich and creamy plant-based ice cream that genuinely lives up to its conventional reputation. This product does not include any eggs, gluten, or peanuts, but it does contain soy, which makes it a vegetarian option.
While Haagen-Dazs doesn’t have as many dairy-free varieties as some of the other companies on our list, other tastes such as Peanut Butter Chocolate Fudge and Coconut Caramel are equally as enjoyable as the dairy-filled alternatives. Many people believe that NadaMoo!is not only the finest vegan ice cream, but also the best ice cream period period. It’s impossible to tell that it’s prepared using coconut milk instead of dairy-based cream because every mouthful is so thick and creamy. Not only that, but it is also certified gluten-free, Fair Trade and vegan, in addition to being certified organic. While they are not as organic as the chocolate flavor, NadaMoo!
- does offer numerous other vegan flavor alternatives, like Rockiest Road and Banana Caramel Crunch, that are not as sweet.
- The basis of these desserts is produced with organic coconut milk and organic agave syrup; nevertheless, they contain non-organic components such as rice flour and vanilla essence.
- If you’re searching for something a bit different, So Delicious Oatmilk is a great choice.
- The Oatmeal Cookie tastes like a combination of paradise and an oatmeal cookie all in one box.

What to Look for in Dairy-Free Ice Cream
Taste
When ice cream does not taste good to you, there is no satisfaction to be had from consuming it.Ice cream is a treat, and you want it to have that creamy, sweet flavor that takes you back to your youth.Whether you have a yearning for chocolate, caramel swirls, bits of fruit, or brownies, knowing what you like is the first step in finding and selecting the ice cream that is right for you and your family.
Ingredients
Ice creams manufactured without dairy are made from a variety of different base components.Check the labels carefully because some recipes call for oat milk, coconut milk, cashew milk, sunflower butter, and even avocado puree and oil, among other ingredients.Keep an eye out for certifications such as vegan, gluten-free, egg-free, peanut-free, and the use of soy or wheat, amongst other things. It is also important to consider one’s own personal preference.
It is possible that you will choose one ingredient basis over another if you enjoy the flavor of coconut, for instance.
Texture
A creamy, pillowy feel is what you anticipate from ice cream when you dip a spoon into it; not a thin, frosty, and gritty texture that sticks to your ear. It’s important that ice cream is smooth and creamy, with the satisfying mouthfeel that we’ve come to anticipate while enjoying this delectable delicacy.

Dairy-Free Ice Cream Cake
- Amy, a Go Dairy Free viewer, sent in this recipe and accompanying photograph. It’s a straightforward concept, and the ingredients are straightforward as well, and you’ll discover a great lot of freedom in tailoring the cake to various dietary requirements thanks to the ice cream’s close proximity to allergen-free status (unless coconut is a problem for you). I’m going to hand it over to Amy, but I’ve added my remarks in brackets below to aid in the development of any further proposals.. Cake with Ice Cream ″Since my kid was diagnosed with a dairy and nut allergy last year, I have profited enormously from your website, and I am looking forward to receiving the cookbook/advice book Go Dairy Free for Christmas last month.″ I wanted to ″pay it forward″ by sharing with everyone a very quick and easy dairy-free option for a birthday gift that is both delicious and easy to prepare. This recipe was created for my daughter’s birthday party last week, and it was a huge success! The inspiration for this cake came from the cookbook Rose’s Heavenly Cakes, which I must give full credit to! This dish will require a 10-inch cake pan, a 9- or 9.5-inch springform pan, as well as an ice cream machine to be successfully completed.″ CakeThis is your favorite dairy-free cake recipe. Several dairy-free chocolate cake recipes are readily available on the internet, including German Chocolate Cake. Additionally, if you’re short on time, many boxed chocolate cake mixes are dairy-free. I used the German Chocolate Cake recipe by Rose Levy Beranbaum, which appears in the Cake Bible and Rose’s Heavenly Cakes — I made 3/4 of the amount, which was delicious. Bake the cake in a 10-inch round cake pan and set it aside to cool. Slice horizontally into two sections, with the top section being somewhat bigger than the bottom section. You will need to remove the top half of the springform pan and leave it aside, and then insert the bottom half into the springform pan (you may need to trim the sides slightly to fit). It is possible to assist yourself in this maneuver with a pancake turner, pizza spatula, the bottom of a tart pan, or a very flat plate. Ice Cream is a delicious treat. 10 ounces frozen strawberries (or your favorite berry)
- 1 can (13.5 ounces) coconut milk
- 1/3 cup honey
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Combine all of the ice cream ingredients in a blender and puree until there are no more bits of berry visible, since these will remain quite hard in the ice cream once it has been frozen.Pour the mixture into an ice cream machine and process according to the manufacturer’s instructions. You should have reasonably hard ice cream at this stage, thanks to the frozen strawberries you used — you want it to be spreadable, but if it needs to be frozen any more, put it back in the freezer for a few minutes. If the cake has firmed enough, you may spread it straight on the lower part of the cake at this point (inside the springform pan).
Place the top half of the cake on top of the ice cream and press down gently.Spray a big sheet of plastic wrap with non-stick spray before placing it on top of the cake and pressing down hard to eliminate any air bubbles that may have formed.Freeze.Once the cake has been frozen (preferably for 4 hours or more), it may be removed from the freezer and topped with a layer of frosting if desired (I used one of those frostings that comes in a can – Pillsbury, I believe – that does not contain any dairy).Alternatively, you may serve the cake unfrosted and sprinkle it with hot chocolate sauce or fudge sauce – all of which are delectable.Yields 1 colossal birthday cake

Modern Pioneer Recipe
- That’s right, this cake is a modern pioneer recipe down to the very last detail. Although the early pioneers did bake cakes and the homesteaders who followed them did create handmade ice cream, I don’t believe this dairy-free oreo crunch ice cream cake counts as a legacy dish in the traditional sense. The chocolate sandwich cookies and rice crispy cereal completely disrupt the balance of the equation. Modern pioneers, on the other hand, can relish the opportunity to make and consume this cake as a modern pioneer privilege! Producing healthy, sustainable food choices, avoiding processed sweets, and making things from scratch as often as possible are all important aspects of being a contemporary pioneer. Being attentive of what we put into our body and how our health, energy, and attitude are affected by this is equally important. Rather than refined, processed ingredients, this dairy-free oreo crunch ice cream cake makes use of basic ingredients that are both sustainable and healthy. No, this cake does not include any homemade ingredients, but it is OK to treat yourself to a special treat every now and then that is quick, easy, and created using healthier components that can be found at your local health food shop. That this cake is prepared with healthier ingredients and is allergy-friendly really appeals to me! Despite the fact that it is not quite as allergy-friendly as some of the other dessert recipes I post, it still has certain unique characteristics that allow this wonderful treat to be accommodated by a variety of allergy-friendly diets. This oreo crunch ice cream cake is very delicious. There are no refined sugars or tree nuts in this recipe. There are no dairy products or eggs in this recipe.
So Many Options!
- When it came to choose which type of ice cream cake to bake, I was completely overwhelmed by the number of alternatives! There are as many various kinds of ice cream cakes available as there are different kinds of ice cream tastes! According to my standards, there is a cake to suit any taste. It was quite difficult to narrow it down to just one cake! As a result, when it comes to flavor combinations, this dairy-free oreo crunch ice cream cake is quite versatile. My favorite store-bought cookie, chocolate sandwich cookies, were included in my cake since they are a treat that I like splurging on from time to time. The crunch factor comes from a fantastic suggestion I found online about incorporating rice crispy cereal in an ice cream cake to add flavor, texture, and crunch to it. The combination of the two concepts resulted in an immensely enjoyable experience! You can, however, make changes to this recipe to suit your preferences! Experiment with different ice cream flavors, different cookie toppings, and even the no-bake crispy foundation and filling to see what works best for you. Here are a few suggestions to get you started: Minty Cake– Ice Cream: mint chip & vanilla
- Topping: crushed chocolate mint cookies
- Cookie Dough Cake– Ice Cream: cookie dough & chocolate
- Topping: crumbled homemade cookie dough
- Caramel Cake– Ice Cream: caramel & vanilla
- Topping: crushed Ocho caramel candy bars
- Minty Cake– Ice Cream: mint chip & vanilla

Take a look at this delicious ice cream pie recipe as well! I really like how the brownie foundation is topped with crushed chocolate sandwich cookies. It is certainly a worthy competitor to this cake, and it is even more allergy-friendly!

Every year for my birthday, I request an ice cream cake, therefore it should come as no surprise that my sister and mother are quite skilled at creating a number of various ice cream cakes.Every year, though, they tell me that I should make an ice cream cake so that I may get a better understanding of how difficult it is to deal with ice cream!Of course, I accepted the challenge and have gained valuable knowledge in the process, having previously made ice cream cookie sandwiches, an ice cream pie, and now this ice cream cake!Yes, working with ice cream may be challenging.
But, no, it is not necessary to be difficult! When it comes to dealing with ice cream, patience is your most valuable asset (aside from the freezer).Preparing ice cream-based desserts takes the longest and most difficult phase of the process since everything needs to cool and freeze first. While I will cover more ice cream cake suggestions in the Recipe Tips section, I wanted to explain the fundamentals of preparing an ice cream cake before moving on to the more advanced techniques.
Container:
To begin, you must select a container for your ice cream cake that is appropriate for its contents. In order to make this dish, I use the Pampered Chef ice cream cake pan, which was actually on clearance at the time of purchase. In addition to having a plastic base and silicon sides, the pan also has a removable lid that makes it easy to remove the ice cream when it is soft and serve it immediately. The cake may be baked in several different pans, including pie plates, springform pans, cheesecake molds, and a big loaf pan, among others.
In order to make an ice cream cake, you’ll need a container that is easy to work with and will hold the soft ice cream.
Chilled:
When creating an ice cream cake, it is absolutely essential that all of the components are cold or frozen. When it comes time to build the ice cream cake, it is beneficial to have everything refrigerated and cold, whether it is the ice cream cake container, the rice crispy foundation, or the cookie topping.
Softened:
In conclusion, I believe that the most difficult aspect of working with ice cream is making it just soft enough so that it is spreadable but not too mushy so that it becomes like dairy-free ice cream soup.Allowing your ice cream to soften in the refrigerator is a good idea for this step.Softening ice cream in the refrigerator allows you to keep the ice cream frozen while also allowing it to become soft and useable. However, do not keep it in the refrigerator for an extended period of time!
Keep an eye on the ice cream and use it as soon as it becomes soft enough for you to handle it comfortably.Different brands of ice cream will defrost at a faster rate than others. It’s possible that certain dairy-free ice creams are so soft that they may be eaten straight from the freezer without needing to be softened first.Other kinds of ice cream will need to be allowed to soften before they can be used to make an ice cream cake.
Serving & Storing
I’m quite sure I don’t need to go into too much detail regarding the fact that this dairy-free ice cream cake must be stored in the freezer, because it is, after all, an ice cream cake. The ice cream cake must be covered while it is being frozen, though, and I will discuss this later on in the recipe.Ice crystals on the top of the ice cream cake may be avoided by keeping the ice cream cake covered with an air tight lid.The way you serve this dairy-free oreo crunch ice cream cake is up to you; there is no right or wrong method.
Increase the number of toppings or even serve it with more cookies or ice cream, whichever suits your fancy! If you want, you might ask how much sugar do you want all at once!Keep in mind that everything should be done in moderation!Despite the fact that it is really difficult with this ice cream cake!Regardless of how you prepare the cake, I highly recommend that you allow it to soften slightly before cutting into it to serve it.Again, this may be dependent on the kind of dairy-free ice cream you choose, as well as the amount of time it has been left to freeze before serving it to your guests.
It’s basically a matter of making the cake relatively simple to slice so that you don’t ruin its look while attempting to serve it!Whatever method you use to serve this cake, it is guaranteed to be tasty and well-liked by all modern pioneers!
Recipe Tips
- There are a few things to take in mind while making an ice cream cake in general, but here are a few extra things to keep in mind when making this particular ice cream cake. Prior to putting on the first layer of ice cream, make sure the rice crispy foundation has been totally cold before proceeding. It’s also important to allow the first ice cream layer to completely re-freeze before adding the second layer
- note that if the first layer of ice cream isn’t totally frozen, the two tastes will muddle together and you won’t have that clear chocolate/vanilla line. However, it is still really wonderful
- I have discovered that NadaMoo! dairy-free ice cream is rather straightforward to deal with when it comes to creating an ice cream cake recipe. SoDelicious dairy-free requires a bit longer softening time than regular SoDelicious, but it is still very edible. Coconut Bliss ice cream is quite soft to begin with, and it has a stronger coconut taste to begin with. Hudsonville dairy-free ice cream is incredibly soft and does not require any additional softening time before serving.
- Use a different type of dairy-free ice cream replacement such as almond milk ice cream, cashew milk ice cream, or oat milk ice cream to create this cake without the coconut flavoring.
- Instead of using brown rice crispy cereal for the rice crispy basis, you may experiment with using big flake coconut shreds or chopped almonds to create a grain-free crunchy base.
- Make your own chocolate cookies to use as a topping for the crumbled cookie topping if you want to be more creative.
This dairy-free oreo crunch ice cream cake is refreshing, sweet, and very delectable! All modern pioneers, regardless of age, will undoubtedly consider it their favorite summer treat. Made with fresh ingredients, it’s a cinch to put together and keeps well in the freezer until you’re ready to serve it.

Assembling the Cake
- Remove the chocolate ice cream from the freezer to allow it to soften. It takes around 5-8 minutes for NadaMoo ice cream to soften. Spread the ice cream over the frozen rice crispy cereal foundation once it has thawed a little. Place the cake in the freezer for at least 10 hours after removing it.
- Remove the vanilla ice cream from the freezer to allow it to soften. Spread the vanilla ice cream on top of the chocolate ice cream layer after it has gotten soft.
- The chocolate sandwich cookies should be crushed and sprinkled on top of the vanilla ice cream. Place the cake in the freezer for at least 5 hours once it has been removed.
- Allowing the cake to soften for a few minutes before slicing and serving is highly recommended!

Vegan Ice Cream Cake
In terms of elegant and delicious vegan desserts, my favorite recipes to prepare are Death by Chocolate Cake, German Chocolate Cake, and this vegan ice cream cake (all of which are vegan, of course). When I was younger, my family made it a point to serve my sister and me an ice cream cake on our birthdays every year. We’d wake up the week before our birthdays to find a carton of Vienetta ice cream resting in the freezer, ready to be cut on the day of our celebration. This custom continued for the whole of our childhood until it was no longer available at our local grocery shop.
Since then, our birthday cakes have evolved and, depending on what we were seeking at the time, have changed from year to year as well. However, my sister and I have both expressed a desire for a frozen-based dessert, and it has been my quest to reproduce it.Given my affection for both classic chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream, I decided that combining the two would result in a show-stopping dessert.I was not disappointed! For quite some time, I’ve been intending to post a recipe for vegan ice cream cake on the blog.Every time I have a party, this is the type of cake I bake, and everyone always asks for the recipe!
Now, this cake may appear to be really elaborate, but I assure you that it is incredibly simple to make! There are no eggs, no milk, and no dairy products required, yet you’d never know it.The cake has a soft and fluffy texture, while the ice cream layer is smooth and creamy in consistency. It’s delicious and chock-full of chocolate flavor, with the ice cream taste showing through the most!
- This cake was given as a dessert when I had some friends around for a birthday party the other day, and hardly one believed me when I told them it was dairy free—they assumed it had to have milk or butter in it!
How do you make a vegan ice cream cake?
The Ingredients
- Sifted all-purpose flour to guarantee that there are no clumps throughout the batter
- cocoa powder to ensure that the batter is 100 percent unsweetened cocoa powder. As with the flour, sift it thoroughly to ensure that there are no clumps.
- Sugar– You may use white or brown sugar for this.
- Baking soda– This gives the cake depth and fluffiness. It also interacts with vinegar, which aids in the rising of the cake. Vinegar– White vinegar or apple cider vinegar are the finest options. Lemon or lime juice can be substituted for vinegar if you don’t have any on hand.
- Vanilla essence is a must-have ingredient in any delicious cake or baked product recipe.
- Oil– Use a neutral-flavored oil, such as sunflower or vegetable oil, to combine everything.
- Water– To bring everything together. If you choose to use almond or soy milk instead, that is also OK.
- Chocolate frosting– Use only a thin coating to assist the ice cream adhere to the cake
- vegan ice cream– Use any vegan ice cream of your choosing.
- If you want to use a vanilla-flavored one, I recommend it since it goes well with the chocolate cake.
- Vanilla frosting– Optional, but should be poured on top and around the cake.
The Instructions
Begin by putting together the cake.Combine the dry ingredients in a large mixing basin and well combine. Then add the wet ingredients and combine until a thick batter is formed. After that, divide the cake batter evenly between two 8-inch cake pans that have been oiled.
Bake the cakes for 27-30 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.Remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool entirely before taking them from their baking pans to cool thoroughly on the counter.Cover the cakes with plastic wrap and set them aside at room temperature until you’re ready to assemble them.Prepare the ice cream layer at this point.Remove the vanilla ice cream from the freezer and let it to sit at room temperature for 30 minutes to soften before serving.Once the mixture is soft, pour it into an 8-inch cake pan lined with plastic wrap or tin foil.
Cover the pan with plastic wrap and set it back in the freezer for at least 6 hours to re-freeze the mixture.Last but not least, build the cake.Place the first cake layer on a level surface and repeat the process with the remaining layers.Using tongs, carefully remove one of the ice cream layers from the freezer and set it on top of the cake before adding the second cake layer.
- If desired, decorate the top and sides of the cake with vanilla icing.
Tips to make the best dairy free ice cream cake
- Work in sections. It is ideal to make the cake and ice cream layers the day before and assemble them the day of.
- Make use of a high-quality vegan ice cream brand that melts smoothly and retains its shape when frozen. The frosty texture and less-than-creamy consistency of many vegan ice cream companies have earned them a bad reputation among consumers. Ice cream prepared with coconut milk or coconut cream is a good option to consider.
- It is easier and cleaner to slice the cake using a knife that has been gently wetted and warmed.
Flavor variations
- Ice cream with chocolate flavoring can be substituted for the vanilla flavoring in this recipe. Chocolate icing should be used to decorate the outside of the cake.
- Strawberry shortcake– For the cake component, make a strawberry cake, and for an extra strawberry kick, use strawberry ice cream on top of the cake.
- Oreo– Use vegan cookies and cream ice cream in place of the regular version.
- Reese’s– For the cake portion, make a red velvet cake.
- Red velvet– For the cake portion, make a red velvet cake. Make a chocolate peanut butter cake and fill it with peanut butter ice cream for a delectable dessert.
- Recipe for mint chocolate chip ice cream: bake an 8-inch mint chocolate cake and fill it with mint chocolate chip ice cream.
Storing and freezing the ice cream cake
- When storing the cake, put it in the refrigerator 30 minutes before you plan to serve it. This guarantees that the ice cream melts slightly but retains its ability to be sliced into and retain its form after being frozen. Because of this, the cake cannot be kept in the refrigerator any longer, because otherwise it would crumble and the ice cream will seep into the cake.
- Storage: Any leftover ice cream cake should be stored in the freezer, properly covered, to avoid the development of freezer burn. I recommend cutting the cake into little pieces and storing them in compact containers. Up to 2 months can be stored in the freezer without deteriorating.

- Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius/350 degrees Fahrenheit. Prepare two 8-inch springform cake pans by greasing them and setting them aside.
- Add the dry ingredients to a mixing dish and well combine. Then add the wet ingredients and combine until a thick batter is formed. Using a spatula, equally distribute the cake batter between the two cake pans.
- Bake the cakes for 27-30 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean. Remove the cakes from the oven and allow them to cool fully before storing them. Once the mixture has cooled, cover it and set it aside at room temperature until you are ready to construct it.
- Removing the ice cream from the freezer and allowing it to remain at room temperature for 30 minutes to soften is recommended. Plastic wrap or tin foil should be used to line an 8-inch cake pan before transferring the softened ice cream into it. Place it back in the freezer for at least 6 hours after making sure the top is smooth.
- When it comes to assembling the cake, start by placing the first cake on a level surface. Place half of the chocolate frosting on top of the ice cream layer, and then repeat the process. Spread the leftover chocolate frosting onto the base of the second cake and then set it on top of the ice cream to complete the sandwich. Make a decorative icing for the top and outside of the cake and lay it in the freezer for an hour to stiffen up.
- Refrigerate the cake for 30 minutes before cutting and serving it.
TO STORE: Place the cake in the refrigerator 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to blend. This guarantees that the ice cream melts slightly but retains its ability to be sliced into and retain its form after being frozen.Otherwise, the cake will crumble and ice cream will leak into the cake if it is kept in the fridge for any length of time.In order to avoid freezer burn, it is best to keep any remaining leftover ice cream cake in an airtight container in the freezer, totally enclosed.
I recommend cutting the cake into little pieces and storing them in compact containers. The cake may be kept frozen for up to 2 months without losing its quality.1 serving |295 calories |39 grams of carbohydrates |6 grams of protein |
