Why The Internet Is Freaking Out About Costco’s Yule Log

    • Holidays Photograph by Noam Galai/Getty Images Photographs courtesy of Getty Images/Entertainment It’s the sweet ending to a year that has been so difficult.
    • There’s good news for those of us who put off planning our Christmas dinners until the last minute: dessert is taken care of.
    • Costco is selling Yule Log cakes for under $10 this year, which is a great deal.
    • To be honest, you probably couldn’t even purchase the materials to create your own cake for that money, let alone save the time and work that this company will save you.
    1. The delectable confection was shared on Instagram stories by a Costco fan account, @CostcoDeals (how have I not followed that account, seriously?) and the internet erupted in laughter as a result of the post.
    2. If you grew up with a Yule Log on the table every Christmas, you may not be familiar with the dessert.
    3. It is a traditional holiday dessert made from a genoise sponge cake (a cake variety I only know by name thanks to watching The Great British Bake Off) and rolled in buttercream to form a Swiss roll before being covered with chocolate buttercream and decorated to look like a log.
    4. The history of the cake may be traced back to the 1600s.
    5. According to History.com, the first known recipe comes from Gervase Markham’s 1615 cookbook, The English Huswife, which was published in the United Kingdom.

However, there was a literal log in the ground long before there was a cake.Pagans in Northern Europe would select a particular tree, bring it inside their home, and burn the trunk on the Solstice and the nights that followed it.The ashes, which were thought to have magical and therapeutic characteristics, would be preserved and used to light the log for the following year.Although paganism declined in popularity, the ritual survived, with households burning the Yule log on Christmas Eve rather than on the Winter Solstice. This progressed until the point where a log-shaped cake was created.

I’m no historian, but I’d like to propose that this is also the first time in history that cakes have been designed to appear like other things.Look, I’ll be completely honest with you here: I’ve never encountered a Costco product that I didn’t enjoy.I’m a sucker for the store: it’s one of the most fundamental aspects of my personality, but I lean into it because I enjoy the sensation of getting a good bargain on a box of crackers that’s so huge it requires a zoning permission. And when it comes to cakes in particular, Costco is unrivaled: I grew up looking forward to birthdays, graduations, and other joyous milestones simply because we would be able to acquire a cake from this store.Consequently, while it is unlikely that the Yule Log cake possesses magical qualities, it is almost certainly wonderfully delicious.

    4. What exactly is all of this about?
    5. Getting a traditional yule log at M&S and Aldi was also a challenge, so I had to settle for a tiny and a deluxe version instead of the classic.

After seven yule logs and an hour-long tour of King’s Lynn’s stores, it was finally time to tuck into the feast! When it came to yule log tasting, I took it very seriously and made certain that I couldn’t tell the difference between the different kinds. After all, we’re talking about serious business here!Asda, Morrisons, M&S, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Aldi, and Cadbury were among the seven yule logs that were subjected to the inspection of the commission. You can keep up with all of Ashlea Hickin’s current news by following her on social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

    • Aldi came in last, which I was a little sad about because I had great expectations for their luxury yule log with fudge frosting, which I was let down by.
    • The cake itself was delicious, but the amount of cream used was a little excessive, and the cake had a little oily flavor to it.
    • Aldi, I’m sorry, but it’s a 4/10 since I anticipated more for £3.29, which was the most expensive yule log in my bag.

The log was creamy and delicious, although it had a little marzipan flavor, earning Tesco a disappointing 6/10.Cadbury was ranked second in our rankings, which came as a surprise to us because we had anticipated to like it far more than the supermarket names. In fact, we found it to be too sugary and lacking in flavor when compared to the retail alternatives.Cadbury and Tesco were both given the same score of 6 out of 10.Morrisons was awarded the bronze medal for their efforts. It had a somewhat drier texture than the others, but it was still wonderful and did not disappoint in the slightest.

This year’s yule log receives a 7 out of 10.Second place goes to Asda, which has a yule log that is sure to please the masses. It featured huge amounts of cream on the interior, a wonderful covering of chocolate on the surface, and a good sprinkling of’snow’ on top, which was something that none of the others had.

Costco Kirkland Signature Chocolate Yule Log With Vanilla Cream Review

    • This is very delicious!
    • Please keep in mind that this review was not paid for or endorsed by any third party in any way.
    • Unless otherwise stated, the opinions expressed in this review are all mine.
    • No affiliation exists between me and Costco or any of its suppliers.
    1. I am simply a supporter of the organization.
    2. I create these evaluations to provide assistance to other consumers.
    3. The intention was for Sean and myself to visit the Costco Liquor shop last Friday only for the purpose of purchasing ingredients for making Christmas Moscow Mules.
    4. When we arrived, I decided that I wanted to make a quick trip to the shop to pick up a salad kit and perhaps some fresh berries as well.
    5. We made a big mistake, and we ended up $300 in debt and a giant Costco Kirkland Signature Chocolate Yule Log With Vanilla Cream wealthier as a result.

The yule log I’m discussing today is one that you might want to consider purchasing for the holiday season!

    Taste

    • Okay, this is rich, and I mean it in a good way.
    • You simply require a small portion of the pie.
    • It appears that there is a lot going on in this yule log!
    • The bottom layer is a layer of chocolate cake, followed by a layer of chocolate mousse, a layer of vanilla pudding in the center of the chocolate mousse, and a layer of chocolate fudge on top of that vanilla pudding.
    1. Next, a layer of dark chocolate ganache is applied to the whole log, with whipped cream piped around the edges for decoration.
    2. On top of the yule log is a white chocolate mistletoe garnish, which adds a festive touch.
    3. The first couple of bits were delicious, but the dish is so rich that it became overwhelming after a few bites.
    4. I think I would have done better if I had served myself a tiny slice of the log rather than an eighth of it.
    5. In addition to the chocolate mousse being quite delightful and tasty, the cake is excellent (it is likely the same cake as the tuxedo cake), the ganache is excellent, and the chocolate fudge under the vanilla is also delectable!

The vanilla pudding was a disappointment to me.It’s similar to the vanilla custard or pudding that used to be served with the enormous slab vanilla birthday cakes that they used to make, but it’s not one of my favorites. When I dropped off some pieces for my parents, they were surprised to see how rich it was.

    Cost

I spent $19.99 Canadian dollars on a Yule log. Due to the fact that this could easily serve 16 people, the pricing is really affordable. There will be plenty to freeze and enjoy at a later period.
