Starbucks Cake Pops: What To Know Before Ordering
- This year marks the 50th anniversary of Starbucks’ founding in Seattle, Washington.
- Using something as basic as a cup of coffee, the American multinational network of coffeehouses and roasteries has transformed it into a global phenomenon that can be enjoyed in more than 70 different ways.
- And it doesn’t even take into account the company’s popular holiday menu, the Starbucks secret menu, or the millions of personalized beverages created by customers using the Starbucks Rewards mobile application.
- Starbucks has not only sparked a nationwide coffee craze, but they have also elevated the coffee-drinking experience with their unique array of breakfast, lunch, and bakery offerings.
- In addition, did we mention that everything is delectable?
- Starbucks has everything for everyone, from croissants to oatmeal to yogurt parfaits, and there’s something for everyone at Starbucks.
Starbucks also provides the perfect snack-able treat for when that noon sweet hunger strikes: cake pops. Those small dough balls covered in icing are quite delicious, and you can eat one (or two, or three) without feeling like you’re about to go into a sugar coma.Do you have a good understanding of what goes into making Starbucks’ cake pops?
When did Starbucks start selling cake pops?
- Over a decade has passed since Starbucks announced that they will begin offering a new treat known as cake pops (via Starbucks).
- Despite the fact that you can acquire a cake pop at almost every Starbucks shop these days, they are not manufactured there.
- It is an outside provider that prepares and distributes the cake pops you see behind the glass pane.
- This implies you’re likely spending twice as much as Starbucks did to get those cake pops, but we’ll get to that in a minute.
- According to Starbucks, wholesale dessert retailer SROriginals (which, according to Bake Mag, will change its name to Steven Charles in 2021) has been the company’s cake pop supplier since 2010, making cake pops a permanent feature on the company’s coffeehouse menu.
- Starbucks points out that SROriginals/Steven Charles, which has been accredited by the Rocky Mountain Minority Supplier Council, has gone on to produce various additional high-quality sweets to its outlets, but that cake pops have proven to be the most popular and profitable.
Clearly, this collaboration was advantageous to each and every organization involved.
How are cake pops made?
- Shutterstock Cake pops, according to Sally’s Baking Addiction, are simply little ball-shaped cakes on sticks that are dipped in chocolate.
- When it comes to cake pops, if you’ve ever had a slice of cake, you’ve practically already experienced what they taste like.
- It may not seem glamourous at first, but after you see the decorations on these puppies, you’ll have a whole change of heart about it.
- When it comes to creating a cake pop, the procedure is the same as it would be for baking a traditional layer cake.
- Finally, once the cake has set and cooled, it is broken up into little pieces.
- Combine the cake mix with a dab of icing (either store-bought or homemade) and mix until it has a sticky texture, adding additional frosting as needed.
It should be just wet enough to keep its spherical shape without becoming soggy. After that, take two scoops of the cake mixture and roll them into balls before placing them on the end of a stick to cool. Each cake pop should be dipped into melted chocolate and placed in the freezer for at least 20 minutes before serving.Sprinkles, white chocolate or raspberry drizzle, or other sweet embellishments may be added by the store, depending on how creative or luxurious they want to be.You can make your own Starbucks cake pops at home instead of waiting in line at the coffee shop. Our imitation Starbucks cake pops recipe makes it simple to produce delicious confections at home.
What cake pop flavors are there?
- What would be a better question is, what flavors of cake pops aren’t available?
- Since its inception, Starbucks has offered a variety of cake pop flavors and forms (including foxes, polar bears, cats, and more), with the exception of the Birthday Cake Pop and Chocolate Cake Pop varieties, which are available year-round at participating locations (via Starbucks).
- Starbucks’ cake pop flavors are often based on the same theme cycles as the company’s limited-time seasonal beverages.
- When Starbucks claims a flavor is only available for a short time, it isn’t kidding around.
- During the Christmas season of 2017, one user tweeted Starbucks to inquire as to why the company only offers their seasonal flavors, specifically the Peppermint Brownie Cake Pop, ″for like 10 minutes″ before discontinuing it for the rest of the year.
- Starbucks reacted, assuring customers that the flavor had not been canceled, but had just run out of stock for the year.
Around the month of December, when peppermint is theoretically still in season Starbucks, we get where you’re coming from.Beginning in the first quarter of 2021, Starbucks introduced an Earth Day Cake Pop, which included blue frosting with blue, green, and white sprinkles on top (via POPSUGAR).According to the New York Daily News, the current limited-edition cake pop flavor is the Unicorn Cake Pop, which is made of vanilla cake, confetti sprinkles, and white chocolate, among other ingredients.Another flavor option available at the moment is Cookie Dough Cake Pops. You should always read the web menu before heading to Starbucks to make sure you know what you’re getting yourself into before you there.
How much do cake pops cost?
- Shutterstock In accordance with the Starbucks Rewards app, cake pops are priced between $2.25 and $2.45 a pop.
- For a snack, you’re looking at $2.
- This doesn’t appear to be a bad deal.
- Wrong!
- Starbucks’ cake pops may appear to be a good deal due to their ″affordable price,″ but in actuality, they represent a significant overcharge when compared to the coffeehouse chain’s other bakery offerings.
- According to Starbucks, bagels cost less than $2, and a croissant costs 50 to 30 cents extra each pop, while a loaf (for example, the lemon or pumpkin bread) costs $3.25 per loaf (as opposed to the cake pop).
Almost everything else on the menu will provide a better value for your money, so take advantage of that. The bottom lesson is that cake pops may be luxurious, but they are not a budget-friendly treat for everyone.A $2.25 cake pop is devoured in one or two bites, which is absurd when you consider that you can get a bagel for less money. If you’re truly yearning a slice of cake, it’s best to make cake pops at home, where a batch of 30 will cost you no more than $12 to $15, depending on your budget. After that, you may freeze the leftovers and eat them throughout the week as needed.
Are cake pops healthy?
- Shutterstock In a nutshell, the response is no.
- Cake pops are completely devoid of any nutritional value or health benefits.
- They are, however, delectable, and if you’re in the mood for something sweet, they may be the perfect snack for you!
- Bakery chain Starbucks claims that its cake pops comprise between 150 to 180 calories, 7 to 9 grams of fat, 12 to 18 grams of sugar, and around 23 grams of carbohydrate per serving.
- Cake pops do not all have the same nutritional value since each cake pop is made with a different type of batter and frosting, as well as different types of embellishments.
- If you have a choice between the Birthday Cake Pop and the Chocolate Cake Pop, the chocolate is the ″healthier″ option.
Cake pops, like anything else, are acceptable when consumed in moderation. Before you place an order for a cake pop, think about why you’re considering doing so.Do you require anything to jolt you awake? In that case, why not go out and have a cup of coffee? If you’re hungry and in need of a snack that will provide you with the power and energy to get through the remainder of your day, a cake pop isn’t the best choice. Before you go, assess the advantages and disadvantages of getting a cake pop that will be gone in two bites, and be aware that you will most likely be tempted to get an extra item to fully fulfill your appetite.

I’ve eaten cake pops a few times before and thought they were really decent, so when I spotted these Olivia’s Cake Pops from Costco at Costco the last time I was there, I decided to give them a try. They were delicious!
Taste
- Baked cake pops are made by combining cake and frosting in a ball shape and then covering it with either hard candy or chocolate coating to make it look like an ornament.
- Initially, I was concerned that they might have an artificial taste, but they were actually pretty nice.
- In the package, you’ll find two different flavors: chocolate and vanilla.
- The chocolate is moist, fudgy, and intensely chocolatey in addition to being sweet.
- The sprinkles on the exterior provide a little crunch to the overall dish.
- The vanilla flavor cake pops are likewise delicious, moist, and have a taste that reminds me of birthday cake.
I favored the chocolate flavor over the others. These are without a doubt some of the best cake pops I’ve ever had.Despite the fact that they are not completely spectacular, they are rather tasty as a fun and unique dessert or treat!
Cost
It costs $9.99 Canadian for the cake pops in the Olivia’s Cake Pops box, which contains 12 of the confections.
Convenience
The cake pops are packaged in a resealable plastic container that has been designed exclusively for cake pops alone. If they are not used before the best before date, according to the box, they can be frozen. The cake pops have a best before date that is approximately a week and a half after the day we purchased them.
Nutrition
- One Olivia’s Cake Pop has between 120 and 125 calories, depending on the flavor you choose.
- These are nut-free, and there are no artificial colors, preservatives, or tastes in them at all!
- Obviously, they aren’t healthy, but if you’re in the need for something sweet, one cake pop isn’t that bad for you in terms of calories, fat, or sugar.
- These were a lot of fun to experiment with, and I believe kids would really appreciate them!

Chocolate Cake Pops
Ingredients
- Chocolate cake or cupcakes that have been baked
- 1 cup butter
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 3 cups sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 8 ounces chocolate chips
- 8 ounces white chocolate chips
- 1 cup flour
- Choose the sticks and sprinkles that you want to use.
Directions
- In a large mixing basin, crumble the cupcakes. Remove the tops of each cupcake and crumble them into tiny crumbs of the same size
- Shortening and butter should be combined in a small mixing dish. After that, combine the vanilla and sugar. Make a thorough mix.
- Take a half cup of the frosting and spread it on top of the crushed muffins. To thoroughly mix in the icing, use a mixer.
- Make a tiny ball out of the dough, or shape it into any shape you wish.
- Allow about 10 minutes of freezing time so that the dough hardens somewhat
- while the dough is chilling, melt the white chocolate in a separate bowl.
- Remove the dough from the refrigerator and dip one stick in the white chocolate, just a little at a time. Then, using the white chocolate, adhere the dough to the end of the stick. Place the ball or form back on the tray and continue the process for each ball or shape. Once all of the sticks are in place, return the dough to the freezer for 5 minutes to chill. Meanwhile, melt the chocolate in a separate bowl. Make sure the white chocolate is still liquid before removing the dough from the freezer and dipping each piece into the melted chocolate of your choice. If you’re going to add sprinkles, put them on as soon as you possibly can. Place them back in the freezer for 5 minutes to allow them to firm up again. Enjoy
