Transfer the frosting to a piping bag fitted with a 1/2-inch round tip ″tip with a round shape If the dough is extremely soft, chill for 5 to 10 minutes before piping.

Reduce the heat to low and whisk in the confectioners’ sugar until well incorporated. Whisk until the sugar is completely dissolved and the liquid is smooth and glossy, about 2 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat, whisk in the vanilla, and pour the mixture into a large measuring cup made of glass. Remove from heat and allow it cool until very barely warm.
  9. Finally, I’ll say this: Taking the cake out of the freezer, spread half of the warm fudge frosting over the top of the cake in long, smooth strokes to completely cover the buttercream lumps. Tilt the pan to allow the frosting to run over the top of the cake, if required, to completely coat it.
  10. Place the pan back in the freezer for 5 to 10 minutes to firm up. Repeat the process with the remaining frosting until the bumps and cake are thoroughly covered. The frosting can be thinned if it is too thick by heating it in 5-second bursts in the microwave while swirling constantly until smooth and pourable. After 20 minutes, place the cake in the refrigerator for another 20 minutes so that the icing can set.
  11. Make sure to keep this cake refrigerated until you are ready to serve it. It will keep for up to 1 week if kept covered and refrigerated.
