Instructions for Making the Cake Topper with Cricut
Step 1:Decide on your theme and color palette
First and foremost, decide on the topic for your cake topper. Are you crafting a cake topper with a unicorn theme or a cake topper with a mermaid theme? If not a cartoon character, will this cake topper be based on one? Decide on and confirm your theme, and then visit designseeds.com to find a color palette that complements your theme selection.
Step 2:Plan your design
The second step is to choose the pieces that will be used to create your topper.A rabbit, flowers, grass, and birds are all appropriate additions to a spring-themed topper to give it a spring-like atmosphere, for example. You can tell that the cake topper is spring-themed if you put all of the pieces together in a cohesive manner.Similar to this, if you’re crafting a topper with a mermaid theme you may include mermaid fins as well as fish, starfish, clams, seaweed, and other sealife. So make a list of all of these characteristics on a piece of paper.
Step 3: Look for the images for your elements
Next, browse for photographs of the things you’ve included for your cake topper on the internet to use as inspiration. If you want, you may either download the photographs from pixabay.com or purchase a collection of them from Etsy. One thing to keep in mind when searching for the pieces is to make sure that they are in keeping with the theme color that you have chosen in order to get that well-put-together appearance. When creating the mermaid topper depicted in this example, you may use the free mermaid elements available in the VIP collection to get started. The video instruction ″How to Make a Cake Topper with Cricut″ walks you through the process of gaining access to the mermaid file through the VIP library.
Step 4:Create the base
Please submit all the pieces you’ve downloaded to Design Space as soon as possible since you’ll need them for the next phase, when we’ll be creating the basis of the design. To make the base, start by adding your number, followed by a rectangle, and then duplicating all of the parts and arranging them all around it.Once you’re satisfied with your results, select all and weld them together.Everything should be resized to fit the basis.
How big to make a cake topper?
You might be wondering how large to build a cake topper when you get to this point. So far, I’ve found that a cake topper that is 6 inches broad works best for me.If the cake topper is larger than 6 inches in diameter, it may become excessively heavy and unstable, especially if it has numerous layers. As a rule, if the size is less than 6 inches, the elements may be too tough to put together. As a result, the optimal size for the cake toppers is 6 inches in diameter.
Step 5: Add the elements
The second and last step in creating personalized cake toppers with Cricut in Design Space is to arrange the parts around the base to see whether everything is in place and if everything looks right. You are welcome to use any of the colors from your color palette that you previously prepared.
Step 6: Cut & assemble
Once you’re satisfied with everything, be ready to start removing things one by one.Choose the colors for your paper with care, taking into consideration the color theme.Although your paper colors may not be EXACTLY the same as the color theme, they should be comparable.Make certain that everything complements one another and that no hue stands out too much from the others. After you’ve cut out all of the pieces, it’s time to put the cake topper together. The use of glue dots or cardboard pieces in numerous layers to produce a 3D impression is something I enjoy doing.
How to ship cake toppers?
Using two thick pieces of cardboard to sandwich cake toppers in order to keep them from bending is the most effective method of shipping. Organize and package the sandwiched cake topper in the postal satchel before shipping it off to the purchaser.

What Size Should Cake Toppers Be?
A wedding cake is the focal point of your celebration, and one of the best ways to make it even more memorable is to include an appealing and customized wedding cake topper on top of it.And while we’re on the subject, did you realize that the custom of the topper is just around a century old?It all started when the daughter of a baker was getting married and asked her father to include a unique pair symbolism in the wedding cake he was making. He surprised them by placing a figure of a bride and groom on top of the cake.It was at this point that the iconic, timeless wedding cake toppers were created.Even yet, nowadays, couples have a wide range of alternatives and are quite explicit about their preferences.
The only thing that bothers them is the size, and that’s exactly what we’ll be discussing today! When selecting the appropriate size, there are four considerations to keep in mind: The topper’s weight is a significant consideration.Based on the material and level of personalization, the weight of a cake topper might vary significantly. For example, beautiful porcelain wedding cake toppers are often more substantial than their acrylic equivalents in terms of weight. In such situation, you’ll need to create a unique base and support build just for them.
Don’t be concerned, the store where you purchased them will most likely provide you with the information you want. The size of the wedding cake topper’s diameter After you’ve calculated the weight, you’ll need to consider the circumference of the cake topper.Generally speaking, you don’t want it to be any larger than the top tier of the cake as a general rule. But, if that’s your intention, make sure it’s not too bright and that it remains in place until the cake-cutting ritual. The height and width of the top tier of the cake Choosing an acceptable size for the cake topper ensures that it emanates the elegance you desire without appearing ostentatious or disproportionate.
- Here’s what we propose as a starting point:
Top Tier Width | Cake Topper Width |
5” | 4.5” |
6” | 5.5” |
7” | 6.5” |
8” | 7.5” |
However, if you have a certain size in mind, we would be more than delighted to accommodate you.Preferences that are unique to the individual After the typical factors, the decision comes down to your particular preferences, as it does with anything else.Making the topping a substantial portion of the main dessert is only natural if you want it to be a focal point of the meal.Similarly, if you want it to be subtle and just lay down there, a little yet personalised one is preferable. You may view our whole selection of wedding cake toppers by clicking here.If you are still unsure about the size or any other element, please do not hesitate to contact us through email.

Groom’s last name in a single letter on the cake topper Initial Single letters are available in four different heights: 3, 4, 5, and 6 inches tall, respectively. The size of the top cake layer should have an impact on your selection when it comes to picking the appropriate Topper height. It is customary for the top tier to be 6 inches in height, but you should check with your baker if you are unsure. When writing letters that are broader than they are tall, use these rules of thumb: A five-star rating ″Topper is generally the ideal proportion, especially if you use a curly or italicized font for your message. If you want to play it safe, a 5 is a good choice ″should accomplish the task
- Choose a 6 as a starting point ″If you want to draw attention to your Topper, you should choose a bright color.

How to Make Cupcake Toppers With Your Cricut
There’s no easier way to dress up a cupcake than by putting a cupcake topper on the top of the cupcake. While there are a variety of materials that may be used to make cupcake toppers, my personal preference has always been paper.Using Cricut Design Space to create cupcake toppers has never been easier!A design may be created from scratch, a photo can be imported into design space, an SVG file acquired from Etsy can be uploaded, and we can even print and cut digital creations. The options are virtually limitless! The following are some pointers on how to make your own cupcake toppers by combining a Design Space image with typefaces that you have uploaded yourself.
Cupcake Topper Fonts
I’m going to use the typeface ″Black Rose″ for today’s project because it’s a bit more formal.″Black Rose″ is a free typeface that may be obtained from Dafont.com by clicking on this link. For your cupcake topper, I recommend selecting a thicker font, as you’ll find it much simpler to cut out with your Cricut machine and build your topper in this manner.Even the thinnest of letters can become too fragile, and can either bend or shatter as you construct your cupcake topper.Another tip to remember when designing cupcake toppers using a font is to make sure that all of the letters in your design are touching and slightly overlapping.Welding is the term used in Cricut Design Space to describe this process.
Making your cupcake topper as a single image is made possible by welding the letters together. The following link will take you to a tutorial on how I connect and weld letters in Cricut Design Space.Glitter Card Stock: For all of my cupcake and cake toppers, I purchase the Recollections brand glitter paper from Michaels. The card stock is beautiful and strong, the glitter doesn’t shed, and the cardstock cuts nicely with the Cricut in overall appearance.I use extremely long food grade toothpicks for the bulk of my cupcake toppers since they are easier to work with.
Whenever I’m making cupcake toppers for children under the age of three, I use lollipop sticks from my local craft store instead of lollipop sticks.Hot glue gun: When compared to normal craft glue, hot glue dries faster and provides more rigidity to the toothpick and topping assembly.Because of this, you won’t have to be concerned about it slipping off the cake once it’s baked.
Cupcake Topper Sizing
When it comes to the size of a cupcake topper, the breadth is the most important factor to consider. I put the width of a regular cupcake between 2.5 and 2.75 inches for a standard size. Mini cupcakes are 1.5 to 2 inches wide, therefore I fixed the width between 1.5 and 2 inches.
Step-by-Step Design and Assembly
Learn how to make the Happy Fall design in the video below, which includes step-by-step instructions. If you prefer to follow written instructions, I’ve supplied those as well.
Design Steps
- Fill in the blanks with your text in the font of your choosing and any pictures you’d want to put in this layer
- To unweld your photos and text, use the ″unattach″ tool from the toolbar. You will be able to rearrange them independently as a result of this.
- Arrange the photos and letters in such a way that they are slightly overlapping one another.
- To fuse the items together into a single layer, select the ″weld″ tool.
- Create the necessary adjustments to the cupcake topper size and then click ″make it.″
Assembly Steps
- Using the Cricut machine, cut out the pattern for the cupcake topper
- Cupcake toppers with negative space have been cleaned up.
- Hot glue may be used to attach extra-long tooth picks or lollipop sticks.
- Last but not least, place your gorgeous cupcake toppers on your cupcakes and prepare to wow all of your party attendees.
Cupcake Toppers With The Cricut –
With the Cricut, you can create adorable cupcake toppers.Have you ever used your Cricut to create cupcake toppers? They are a lot of fun and quite adorable.Lots of wonderful ideas can be found on Pinterest, and Cricut Design Space has hundreds of designs to select from, so be creative!Making these toppers was quite beneficial in helping me have a better understanding of how to accomplish various things in Design Space that were unfamiliar to me.
A Few Tips & Tricks
You will need to adjust the size of your design so that it does not take up too much space on the toothpick.I normally make mine between 1.25′′ and 1.75′′ in height. The perfect fit is not always achieved without a little trial and error, though. The bulk of the toppers are constructed of four layers (sometimes more). There are four layers in total: a foundation layer, two middle levels, and a top layer. They’re quick and simple to manufacture, plus they’ll earn you some extra cash.
When looking for ways to generate money with your Cricut, this is an excellent option to consider.Initially, I built multiples of the topper in Design Space in order to be able to cut multiples of it at the same time. After that, I realized that all I needed to do was create one and then tell the software how many I wanted to chop out of it.It is also recommended that you first cut out the front of your design before reversing the picture and cutting out the back of your design.Using a baggie labeled ″Front,″ I placed all of the components for the front of the quilt together.
I do the same thing on the back, because the designs on the left and right sides aren’t often precisely the same, as you can see in the photo.
And Then There Are Cake Toppers
Making cake toppers for clients has been a lot of fun for me, and I’ve produced numerous of them. You must first determine the size of the cake in order to determine the size of the topper.Click here to visit my Etsy site, K Peck’s Party Cafe, where you may find more cupcake toppers and other party decorations for inspiration. You may leave a comment below and I will create a tutorial for you if you would want more thorough step-by-step instructions on how to construct them.Until we meet again.Kathy To learn more about the 7 things I can’t live without when it comes to my Cricut, see my blog article on the subject.

How To Make A Cake Topper Using Your Cricut Maker
It’s the month of August!I can’t believe that we’ve already reached the end of the first quarter of 2019.Time has flown by!I’ve learnt to value time more than I ever have before.I really wish we had more time in the day, and by that I mean more sunshine!Isn’t it similar to Alaska?
They have direct sunlight throughout the day, at least for portion of the year.Regardless, let’s get started with this DIY project lesson. In this blog article, I’d like to teach you how to make a cake topper using your Cricut Maker, which you can find here.I created my own cake topper with the help of my Cricut Maker, and I am very thrilled with how it came out.MATERIALS: Quick rundown of the items you’ll need to get started.
The following cardstock weights are available: 1.Magenta 80lb, 2.Glitter 100lb 3.Scissors (also known as shears) 4.Adhesive Foam Squares (Adhesive Foam Squares) 5.
- Hot Glue Gun (optional).
- Clear Stick (no.
- 6) 7.
- APPRECIATE GOOD DESIGN For your Cricut Maker to be able to cut the pictures, you will need to submit the design into the Cricut design area.
- I’m using two different types of paper: one is ordinary 80lb cardstock from Joann’s, and the other is heavyweight cardstock from Michaels.
- The second piece is made of glitter cardstock, which I also purchased from Joann’s.
- Depending on your own choice, you may create several color options for your cake topper.
I strongly advise you to use thick cardboard to ensure that your cake topper is solid and does not wobble.Following that, you’ll want the sticky foam squares.Add them to the backside of the glitter cardstock to finish it off. These were purchased from Michael’s and are ideal for adding more dimension to your cake topper design. However, for this project, I cut the foam adhesive square in half so that it could be hidden behind a design rather than in the foreground.
One thing to notice is that I applied hot glue to the foam squares to give them a little more sticky strength. As shown in the photograph, the foam squares were used throughout the design to provide dimension. You may certainly add more – but don’t go crazy with your efforts.
- After that, apply the glitter cardstock on the pink cardstock with a glue stick.
- Now, one of the ends of the transparent stick that I used had a circle cut out of it.
- I trimmed the round portion of the sticker with my scissors so that it would cling better to the pink cardstock.
- Afterwards, you’ll want to flip your cake topper over so that you may apply hot glue to the underside of the decal before sticking the clear stick to the cardboard backing.
- Attach the transparent stick to the hot glue that has been applied to the back of the design.
- Your cake topper is now complete!
- I really like how the sticky foam squares give the design an added layer of depth!
- Using this instruction, I am looking forward to seeing your cake toppers.
- Don’t forget to send me a picture of your final creation and tag Modern Flower Creation in it!
- I’d be delighted to see them.
- Best of luck with your crafting!

Tutorial: How to Trim Printables and Assemble Cupcake Toppers
Earlier this week, I demonstrated how to cut out and put together a printable banner. Today, we’ll go through how to trim straight-edge prints and cupcake toppers, which will be quite useful. All of the printables were created by Love the Day.
Labels, Cards and Tags
- Paper trimmers are the most convenient tool for cutting printables with straight edges such as food labels, water bottle labels, place cards, thank you tags, and detective checklists (such as the one in this post).
- To make it easier to cut out numerous tags at the same time, trim the outside edges of the tags first.
- If you make a mistake with your cut, it is easy to repair it with scissors.
- Glue Dots, especially the pop-up dots, are one of my favorite party supplies to use.
- I’ve used them to attach thank you tags to ribbon in this instance.
- You know those apothecary jars with a ribbon and a label that you see now and then?
- Glue Dots are the way to go, baby.
How to Trim and Assemble Cupcake Toppers
- Cupcake toppers are a lot of fun to make since there are so many different ways to personalize them.
- Cupcake toppers are sometimes referred to as ″party circles″ since they may be used for a variety of purposes other than simply decorating cupcakes.
- 1 – Print your toppers on 110 lb.
- paper to make them more durable.
- Office Depot is a favorite place of mine to print.
- Cut your toppers near to the edge if you want to punch them out later on.
- The reason behind this is as follows.
- Unless you remove the border from the topper, your punch will not be able to reach it.
- This is something I like to do with my paper trimmer.
Trim around the outer edges first, and then cut the tops into rows or columns as you have done previously.2 – At this point, you may begin punching out each topping. The majority of the time, a 2′′ punch will be sufficient for this work.Fiskars makes this circular punch, which you can see below.
- The handles make it simple to squeeze the bottle.
- But hold just a minute…
- there’s more!
- Why restrict yourself to circles when you can use squares, scallops, and flourishes, to name a few embellishments?
- My favorite punches are the flat ones on the right, made by EK Success, which are seen below.
- They make it simple to hold the toppers in place so that they do not slip into the punch.
- You may also turn the punches over so that you can see what you’re punching while doing so.
- In addition, they may be stored flat when not in use.
