Tap out the excess cocoa but make sure they are well coated. Pour the Volcano batter into the ramekins filling them about 7/8 of the way to the top. Place on the pre-heated sheet tray and bake for 15-18 minutes. The consistency when done should be where the edges of the cake are firm and the top is still soft to the touch.

- Step 8Apply frosting evenly to the top and sides of the stacked cake. Cake trimmings should be arranged like ″lava rocks″ around the base of the cake. Refrigerate until the frosting has hardened.

Working Erupting Volcano Cake – HowToCookThat: Cakes, Dessert &.
My goal for today is to create a functioning volcano cake that will erupt. I had a notion in my brain for a set up that might be able to make this work; watch the video to see how it came out in practice.
To make this erupting volcano cake you will need:
Equipment:
Syringe tube, empty soda bottle, dry ice, cake board, aluminum foil to cover the board 200mL (6.76 fluid ounces) 200mL (6.76 fluid ounces)
Vanilla Cake:
- Make the quantity listed below twice (unless you have a large commercial mixer in which case you may make it all at once).
- However, if you’re like me and have a standard-sized mixer, it won’t fit all of it in the bowl).
- plain or all-purpose flour (450g/15.87 ounces) or 2 3/4 cups (450g/15.87 ounces) 2 1/2 tsp baking powder (optional) 620g (21.87 ounces) sugar (about 2 3/4 cups) 1 teaspoon salt (225g (7.94 ounces) or 1 cup butter or margarine (depending on the size of the pan) 1-and-a-half teaspoons of vanilla extract A serving size of 250g (8.82 ounces) or 7 egg whites (you can use the egg yolks in ice-cream or chocolate cremeux) the equivalent of 340g (11.99 ounces) or 1 1/3 cups milk Approximately 30g (1.06 ounces) or 3 tablespoons of olive oil In the bowl of an electric mixer, combine the flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and butter until the mixture resembles wet sand, about 2 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the vanilla, egg whites, milk, and oil until well combined and smooth.
Then, using a whisk, incorporate one-third of this mixture into the flour mixture until it forms a paste.Whisk the remaining milk mixture for 5 minutes on high speed after adding it to the bowl.Pour the majority of it into two 8-inch round cake pans and color the leftover portion with orange or red food coloring before drizzling it over the top of the baked goods.Make a little swirl in the batter, then bake at 180 degrees Celsius (356 degrees Fahrenheit) for 20 minutes, or until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
It will take around 40 minutes.Bake half of the second batch in an 8-inch cake tin, and the other half in a circular oven-proof dish, using the same procedure as the first.
Frosting & Decoration:
Vanilla buttercream made in two batches (see recipe). I made a double batch of chocolate buttercream and tinted it with a little black food coloring to make it look a little more dirt-like. Green food coloring and one-third packet of plain biscuits, such as excellent biscuits or graham crackers
Caramel Lava
- 3 quarts of sugar 1 cup (around 250 mL) (8.45 fluid ounces) water 2 tablespoons (40g or 1.41 ounces) granulated glucose 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar (also known as tartaric acid) 159 g (5.61 ounces) or 2/3 cup heavy whipping cream food coloring in the color orange In a saucepan, heat the sugar, glucose syrup, water, and cream of tartar, stirring constantly, until the sugar is completely dissolved.
- Wash down the edges of the pan with a damp pastry brush to remove any sugar crystals that may have formed on them.
- Heat on a high heat, stirring constantly, until it reaches 135 degrees Celsius (275 degrees Fahrenheit) or forms semi-firm strands when sprinkled with water (see video).
- Then, cook the mixture without stirring for another 10 minutes, or until it reaches 110 degrees Celsius (230 degrees Fahrenheit) or has a thick consistency when dropped into a cup of hot water.
Pour into a heatproof dish, color with food coloring if desired (stir until just combined; do not over-stir or it will encourage crystallization), and set aside until totally cold.Tip: To clean your pan, just fill it to the brim with warm water and set it in the sink for several hours, during which time the sugar will completely dissolve.
OR Ganache Lava
- Squares of 300g (10.58 ounces) white chocolate, split into pieces Cream, warmed in the microwave for 120mL (4.06 fluid ounces) or 1/2 cup, is used.
- Bring the chocolate to a boil until it is melted.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the warmed cream.
- Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature before serving.
Putting this in the refrigerator will make the texture overly stiff.If this occurs, simply microwave a few spoonfuls of the mixture and then stir it into the remainder of the mixture.

- Make the cake and set it aside to cool fully.
- Make your own chocolate frosting, or purchase some.
- Prepare the cake– Ice the cake entirely and put it together.
- Decorating with Oreos, candy bars and dinosaur toys is a good idea.
- Keep the cake aside while you finish the rest of the project.
- Preparation: Make rice krispie treats, with chocolate powder and brown food coloring added
- Make a volcano out of rice krispie treats- Make sure your hands are lubricated. Create a volcano form out of the mixture by arranging it over a thin plastic cup. Pour the melted red and orange chocolate around the top edges of the cake and allow it to drip down the sides.
- Complete the final construction by placing the volcano on top of the prepared dish and surrounding it with additional Oreos, candy bars, and dinosaurs.
- Create a smoke effect by carefully placing a few cubes of dry ice in the plastic cup of the volcano, followed by a little amount of hot water.
Variations for volcano birthday cake
- Volcano topper– I created mine out of rice krispies, but you could also use Marshmallow Fondant or Modeling Chocolate to create this.
- It can also be made entirely of cake by carving it out.
- Cake in the shape of a rainforest- Place some fondant trees or even plastic trees around the cake randomly.
- You might also pipe some grass with green frosting on top of the cake.
You can even create a blue waterfall with a hose.Consider include some animals from the jungle, such as snakes and birds.Cakes in miniature form- Use little bundt cakes and carve them into the appropriate shape.Make them appear like a volcano by decorating them.
In the center, place a tiny thin plastic container, and fill it with dry ice and boiling water to create a smokey atmosphere.Other cake flavors to experiment with are this Easy Chocolate Oreo Cake and this Chocolate Brownie Cake.Other frosting tastes to experiment with include Peanut Butter Frosting and Chocolate Ganache Frosting.Fill the cake with your favorite contents, such as fresh fruits, coarsely chopped sweets, Homemade Vanilla Pudding, Homemade Dulce De Leche, or even Homemade Strawberry Jam.Replace plastic toys with gum paste or fondant figures- Plastic toys are certainly more handy, and children can play with them after they are through with them, but if you have the time, build dinosaur figures out of fondant.

Tips and techniques for dinosaur volcano cake
- If you’re decorating a heated cake, wait until it’s entirely cold before starting since the heat will cause the icing to melt and create a sticky disaster.
- Wash the toys with soap and water, and then pat them dry with a soft cloth.
- In order to prevent contamination with the culinary components, dry ice must be placed into a plastic container and then placed inside of the volcano, as described above.
- When working with dry ice, use gloves and tongs to prevent freezer burns.
If you don’t, you might wind up with significant freezer burns.Make sure you do the smoke demonstration in an area where children will not be able to access it.Make certain that your location has adequate ventilation.
Storage for chocolate volcano cake
- Temperature at room temperature- Once the cake is finished, place it in a cool place away from humidity, moisture, and sunshine for up to 24 hours until you are ready to serve it.
- These would also serve as my ″prepare ahead of time″ instructions.
- Refrigerate– A cake that has been decorated can be kept in a cake box for up to 2 days.
- Freeze– Unfrosted cakes and frostings can be frozen for up to one month if they are kept in airtight containers or bags.
When you’re ready to prepare this dessert, defrost everything in the refrigerator overnight before decorating it according to the directions listed below.

A 9-by-13-inch pan
- 3-4 cups chocolate frosting
- 2 cups Oreos, coarsely crushed
- 1/2 cup Oreo crumbs
- 3 Snickers candy bars, coarsely chopped
- 1 batch of rice krispie treats, 1 batch of chocolate chip cookies Follow the recipe as written, but add 2-3 tablespoons cocoa powder and a few drops of brown food coloring
- 1/2 cup red chocolate, melted (I recommend using Candy Melts)

- Decorate the edges of the cake with Oreos, Oreo crumbs, and Snickers candies that have been coarsely diced. Don’t use up all of your resources. Keep some aside for a later phase.
- Keep the cake out of the way as you work on the volcano.
- Make a batch of rice krispie cookies to share with friends. Make sure to incorporate some cocoa powder and brown food coloring into the mixture.
- Quickly pour the liquid onto a sheet of wax paper before it has a chance to solidify.
- Put a thin plastic cup in the center of the table.
- Utilizing olive oil, form the mixture into a volcano shape around the plastic cup.
- Pour the melted red and orange chocolate around the top edges of the cake and allow it to drip down the sides of the cake. Make every effort not to let any chocolate fall into the cup.
- Set aside for approximately 1 hour at room temperature to allow the volcano to set and firm up.
- Using gentle pressure, lift it off the wax paper and lay it on the prepared cake
- Decorate the area around it with the leftover Oreos, candy bars, and dinosaur toys.
- Using dry ice, you may produce a smoke effect by carefully placing a few tiny cubes or 1-2 teaspoons of dry ice into the plastic cup of the volcano and then adding a little quantity of hot water to the mixture. For a few minutes, you should see smoke coming out of the vent. Enjoy

Ingredients
- The following ingredients: 300g softened butter
- 350g caster sugar
- 6 eggs
- 300g self-raising flour
- 2 tablespoons milk
- red paste food coloring.
- 100 g apricot glaze or warmed sieved apricot jam
- 500 g marzipan
- 200 g unsweetened chocolate
- Approximately 250g of varied chocolate honeycomb pieces, chocolate raisins, Maltesers, caramel popcorn, and other confections for decorating, as well as toy dinosaurs, cake sparklers or fountains, and other confections for decorating
Method
- STEP 1: Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius (160 degrees Celsius fan/gas mark 1). 4. Grease and line an 18cm round cake tin with baking paper, as well as an 800–900ml oven proof (Pyrex) dish and a 1.2 litre oven proof bowl with baking paper
- IN A LARGE BOWL, combine the butter, 300g of the sugar, the eggs, the flour, and the milk and beat thoroughly to make a light and creamy mixture. Spread little less than half of the mixture in the cake pan

- In the oven, bake for around 30–40 minutes for the little bowl, approximately 35–50 minuted for the larger bowl, and approximately 50–60 minutes for the cake tin. When the mixture is solid to the touch and when a skewer put into the center comes out clean, it is ready to be served.
- STEP 6After the cakes have been allowed to cool completely, cut away any peaks that have developed. Place the spherical cake on a wide cake board and let it cool completely. In order to create an irregular shape for the volcano foundation, cut three little ‘v’ shapes along one of the cake’s edges. Spread a little amount of apricot glaze over over the cake and then set the bigger bowl cake on top, rounded side up, and bake for another 30 minutes. Apply apricot glaze to the top of the remaining cake and set the rounded side of the cake on top. The top of this cake should have a little depression cut out of it to symbolize the ″mouth″ of the volcano, and then the cake should be brushed with apricot glaze.
- STEP 7To cover the cake, roll out the marzipan into a broad circle and smooth it over the top. It might take on a sloppy appearance. Using your hands, lift it onto the cake and drape it randomly in the nooks and crevices to create the form of a volcano
- STEP 8Melt the chocolate either in the microwave or in a heatproof dish set over a pan of simmering water. Chocolate should be painted onto the volcano with a pastry brush. Melted chocolate may be used to attach bits of chocolate, popcorn, and other goodies. Toss in some dinosaurs. In a random method, drizzle any remaining chocolate over the volcano
- TO MAKE THE LAVA, put the remaining 50g sugar in a small nonstick frying pan and heat it up until it is hot. Continue to cook on a low heat without stirring until the sugar has dissolved but the liquid is still clear. Prepare a metal baking sheet by lightly oiling it. Remove the pan from the heat when the sugar is just beginning to turn light brown around the edges, and gently whisk in a few drops of red paste food coloring. Using a teaspoon, drizzle lava forms onto the baking sheet that has been prepared. Allow to cool completely before using.
- STEP 10: When the lava forms are cool, carefully remove them out of the volcano and set them on top of it. Use birthday candles, cake sparklers, or cake fountains to add a special touch to your cake.

- Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius/160 degrees Celsius fan/gas 4.

- Build up the cake to meet the top of the bottle, using buttercream to hold it all together, and then go over the entire form with the remaining buttercream to seal it and make it sticky for the marzipan to adhere to.
- Roll out the marzipan into a big circle to cover the top and sides of the cake — it can be rather a sloppy shape at this point.
- Invert the cake onto a serving plate, then drape it randomly across the surface to create the shape of an active volcano.
