    Step 4 – What tools and materials do I need to put fresh flowers on cake

    Floral tape, scissors, and plastic wrap will all be required. Straws or water picks have worked well for me in the past, however my stems are occasionally too thick for the straws or the water picks.

    Step 5 – How to make fresh flowers food safe

    • Cleaning and preparing your fresh flowers to be food safe is quite straightforward, however it may take some time depending on how many flowers you need to put on the cake.
    • Normally, I would give myself an extra hour during set-up in order to plant flowers.
    • Make your primary huge flower, as well as a few smaller flowers to complement it, and set them aside.

    Measure and cut a piece of flowery tape that is approximately 2-3 inches in length.Wrap the tape around the stem, being sure to cover the bulk of the stem as well as the areas where it has been trimmed.Here, the idea is to establish a barrier between the cake and the stem, particularly at the bottom of the stem, in order to prevent the stem from spilling flower secretion (yeah, that’s a disgusting sounding band name, but it’s also a good one!) into the cake layer below.

    Wrapping the stem in this manner also helps to keep the flowers fresh for a longer period of time since it aids in the retention of moisture and nutrients within the stem.

    Step 3: Decorate The Cake

    Following your successful creation of a good barrier between your cake and your floral stems, as well as your decision to select flowers from the safe list, it’s time to arrange them on your cake – my favorite part of the process!In order to commit to an arrangement, I normally spend some time roughly planning where I want to position the flowers (both on and off the cake).Once you’ve decided on a strategy, begin inserting the wrapped stems into the cake one at a time.

    The very first step will be to determine whether flowers are truly safe to use on the cake in the first place before proceeding any further.Many of you are surely aware that certain flowers are poisonous, and that some are even lethal in their deadly nature.If you are anything like me, you aren’t even familiar with the names of many of those flowers, let alone whether or not they are capable of killing or making someone violently ill.It’s critical to be selective about the flowers you use!You should not rely on the florist to know which flowers are poisonous.

    5- Now pick a straw that is large enough to accommodate the bundle.Even if you don’t have one that is exactly the proper size, you may use another piece of Press-n-Seal to wrap around the bundle to bulk it out and make it fit tightly enough so that it won’t readily slide out of the straw when you tie it.Trim the straw so that it is only a little bit longer than the bundle of leaves.Then there’s the part when one of my amazing epiphanies comes into play.A sheet of waxed paper placed on top of the cake served as a barrier between the flowers and the cake, preventing any chemicals on the flowers from transferring to or contaminating the cake.

    However, this leads to a number of issues.Eventually, you’ll notice some of the waxed paper poking through, which isn’t really appealing.It also makes it more difficult to put the flowers into the cake by cutting a hole in the waxed paper before doing so.So I was thinking about this topic one day when I got the concept that it would be much nicer if there was something coating the backs of the flowers instead of the fronts of the flowers.And then there’s BINGO!

    Of course, we’re talking about edible spray glaze!6- Afterwards, place your bouquet on the towel so that the backs of the flowers are facing you.Spray the whole back side of the bundle liberally with the edible spray glaze and allow it to dry for approximately 5 minutes before assembling.As a result, the flowers’ backs will be coated with a food-safe surface, which will keep any chemicals and pesticides on the flowers from leaching out.Now, the area where the backs of the flowers come into contact with the cake is a safe food contact area.Sweet!

    Seventh, your flower bundles are complete and ready to be incorporated into your cake.Using a long needle nose pliers or hemostasts, I can easily hold the top of the straw at the base of the bundle while the rest of the bundle is being formed.Because of this, it is much easier to place them into the cake.

    • IMPORTANT: Despite the fact that you have made them safe to use as cake decorations, these flowers should never be eaten, regardless of whether they are of the edible sort.
    • Flowers should only be consumed if they have been cultivated in a certified organic facility that has been designated exclusively for the purpose of producing edible flowers.
    • Commercial flowers are not cultivated in a food-safe way, no matter how thoroughly they are cleaned and prepared.
    • Always find out who will be cutting and serving the cake; be sure to inform them that they must remove all of the flowers before they can begin.
