    Step 1: Wash And Trim The Flowers

    Gently wash your flowers under cold running water in a sink to ensure there are no bugs or dirt lingering in the petals before arranging them.Set it under the water until you’ve determined where you’d like to clip the stem (I normally keep it about 2-3 inches long).Take a snip at the stem and hold the clipped section under water for a couple of seconds longer.That, in my opinion, is the flower’s last sip of water.Carefully pat the flowers and stems dry with a paper towel to avoid damaging them.

    Step 2: Wrap The Stems

    Measure and cut a piece of flowery tape that is approximately 2-3 inches in length.Wrap the tape around the stem, being sure to cover the bulk of the stem as well as the areas where it has been trimmed.Here, the idea is to establish a barrier between the cake and the stem, particularly at the bottom of the stem, in order to prevent the stem from spilling flower secretion (yeah, that’s a disgusting sounding band name, but it’s also a good one!) into the cake layer below.Wrapping the stem in this manner also helps to keep the flowers fresh for a longer period of time since it aids in the retention of moisture and nutrients within the stem.

    Step 3: Decorate The Cake

    The owner of Swoon Floral Design here in Portland, my florist friend Kim, told me that she purchases her flowers from the flower market, but that you may get flowers from a grocery store or anywhere is most convenient for you.Buy a few extra bouquets of flowers in addition to what you think you’ll need because some of the flowers may wilt and not look their best when it’s time to utilize them.Select a few large flowers to serve as the focal point of the arrangement, followed by a few smaller flowers and foliage to serve as fillers.If you just use huge blooms, it will be more difficult to fill in any gaps that may occur in particular spots.

    Step 2 – How to keep fresh flowers from wilting

    In most cases, flowers are packaged with a packet of flower vitamins, which you may add to the water to help keep them fresh longer. Follow the directions on how to make the mixture, and then keep the flowers in water until you’re ready to use them to prevent them from wilting.

    Step 3 – Who puts the fresh flowers on cake?

    On one occasion, I delivered a rustic buttercream cake to a wedding and set it out on the cake table for guests to enjoy.After arriving while I was doing my setup, the florist attempted to cram fresh flowers inside the cake without consulting me beforehand.Even in the early stages, I had a strong suspicion that this was not going to end well.Following that day, I made it a point to notify the florist, the bride, the organizer, and everyone else involved in advance that I would be placing the flowers personally.A copy of the cake drawing would also be sent to the florist for their consideration.I would tell the bride to tell the florist to keep whatever flowers she had for me for the cake in a bucket of water near the cake table, so that I could pick them up later.

    If there was no florist present, I would inform the bride that I did not purchase flowers, and that if she desired flowers, she would have to purchase them herself and lay them on the table.

    Step 4 – What tools and materials do I need to put fresh flowers on cake

    Floral tape, scissors, and plastic wrap will all be required. Straws or water picks have worked well for me in the past, however my stems are occasionally too thick for the straws or the water picks.

    Step 5 – How to make fresh flowers food safe

    Cleaning and preparing your fresh flowers to be food safe is quite straightforward, however it may take some time depending on how many flowers you need to put on the cake.Normally, I would give myself an extra hour during set-up in order to plant flowers.Make your primary huge flower, as well as a few smaller flowers to complement it, and set them aside.Cut a square of plastic wrap to approximately 3′′x3′′ in size.Pulling on a piece of floral tape approximately 4 inches long will activate the sticky properties.Make a loop of floral tape and wrap it around the plastic wrap to hold it to the flower.

    I understand that you’re probably apprehensive about even putting one flower on a cake.Allow me to set your mind at ease.The level of toxicity will vary depending on the amount of time spent in contact with the blooms.When you swallow even a little portion of some flowers, you may have negative effects; yet, in order to notice any impact, you must consume a significant amount of other flowers.Any exposure or symptoms should be reported immediately to the Poison Control Center (800-222-1222) or your doctor, according to the American Poison Control Center.You should be OK if you just stick to eating the cake.

    Many flowers are also entirely safe to consume and can even be eaten, such as sunflowers.If the edible flowers have not been treated with pesticides, they do not need to be sealed and can be placed straight on the cake without needing to be sealed.Even edible flowers should not be consumed if they have not been cultivated in an organic manner.

    How to Add Fresh Flowers to a Cake

    What Types of Flowers Can You Put On A Cake?

    This is a difficult question to answer.When it comes to decorating a cake with flowers, the first thing to consider is safety.The usual rule of thumb is to avoid any flowers that are harmful.Anyone who consumes your cake should not be unwell as a result of doing so.There are a number of lists available that detail which flowers are edible and which are not.However, the majority of the flowers on the list are either not in season all year or are difficult to locate in most flower stores.

    It’s not like your guests will be able to eat the flowers on your wedding cake.Everyone knows that no one will ever take a cake slice with a rose on it and attempt to eat the rose!The most important thing to consider is whether or not the flowers will come into touch with any icing or cake layers.I believe there is a simple approach to go about getting fresh flowers for a cake in light of this consideration.Instead of starting with a long list of flowers that you can use, I’ve discovered that it’s better to simply walk into your local flower store.

    The use of floral tape tightly wrapped around the stem and twisting the end of the tape will prevent any fluids from seeping into the cake while baking.

    How Do I Add Flowers to the Sides of a Cake?

    Flower stems may be wrapped in a variety of ways, which is particularly useful if you want to add flowers to the edges of your cake or want them to be positioned at specific angles.It is highly recommended that you use bubble tea straws if this seems like a cake design you would like to emulate as well.When faced with a wall of buttercream and cake layers, it may not be possible to quickly insert a flower stem wrapped in a straw into the gap.A cake decorated with flowers is made even more beautiful by using bubble tea straws, which are thick, plastic straws that perform wonderfully.All that is required is that you trim the straw to a few inches in length and put it into the cake at the proper angle (pressing it fully in the cake).Then just put the flower stem into the straw aperture.

    In order to maintain them at the proper angles, I use bubble tea straws to hold them in place.My bouquet was made out of flowers that were also used in the bride’s bouquet in order to create a cohesive look with the wedding site and decorations.

    What’s the Easiest Way to Add Fresh Flowers to a Cake?

    Unless there is a physical barrier between the cake and the flowers, the stems do not need to be wrapped.The process of wrapping stems is time-consuming and annoying, so I try to avoid doing it whenever possible.If you want to take this method, you must still make certain that the cake is well secured.This is something I like to do by laying a cake board on top of the cake and arranging flowers on top of it, for example.It sounds a little weird, doesn’t it?What’s wrong with putting a cardboard cake circle on top of an already-frosted cake?

    But I can assure you that it works brilliantly.Essentially, it allows you to make the cake look like it has a floral ″top.″ Adding icing and covering the cake with flowers can transform it into a show-stopping confection..There are two reasons why I like this cardboard cake circle technique.The first is that none of the flowers come into touch with the cake at any point during the process.This implies that you won’t have to worry about wrapping stems or using just edible flowers since you won’t have to.

    When it’s time to cut and serve the cake, all you have to do is run a large offset spatula beneath the cardboard cake circle to do the cutting and serving.It just pops right off, and you can cut slices of cake with ease after that.Get all the excitement of fresh flowers without any of the fuss!This technique appeals to me since it simplifies my life tremendously.If you’ve ever attempted to cut a cake with fresh flowers on top, you’ll understand what I’m talking about.The cardboard circle technique eliminates the need to cut around all of the blooms, which saves time.

    Cake layers and icing may be created ahead of time, but adding fresh flowers to a cake is not something I would advocate doing in advance.Flowers require water to keep from withering and becoming wilted.It is possible that they will lose their shine if they are applied on the cake more than a day before the event takes place.I like to decorate cakes with fresh flowers on the same day that they will be served.Despite the fact that my response makes life a little more difficult, you have to believe me on this one.If you decide to include them the day before, you will be disappointed.

    The morning of my wedding, I intend to decorate my own wedding cake with fresh flowers, which I will do the day before.Unfortunately, there are no short cuts in this situation.

    It is not recommended that this come into close touch with cakes.The first portion of the next section discusses the many methods of preparing fresh flowers.The gum paste flowers discussed in the next section are gum paste flowers.

    How to Attach Fresh and Wired Flowers onto Cakes

     Decorating a cake with fresh flowers

    Method 1: Poke a wire into the flower stalks and wrap the stalks in cling wrap or foil.

    The daisies, for example, have easily bending stems, making this a particularly handy technique.Normally, I cut a piece of floral wire (usually 20 or 24 gauge) that is the same length as the flower stalk and gently place it into the flower stem to create these blossoms.And then I either wrap the entire stem in cling wrap or foil all the way up to the calyx of the flower, or I just wrap the flower calyx in foil.Once the flower has been wrapped, it is okay to pierce it into the cake.

    Using a wire to secure fresh flowers, especially ones with thin and fragile stalks, will make it much simpler to poke the flowers into cakes without the flower stalks breaking or bending away from the cake.

    Another thing to keep in mind is that leaving the stalks a little longer will assist to ensure that the flowers are more securely connected to the cake, which is especially important during shipping.

    When it comes to flowers with more strong stems, such as roses, wiring is not necessary. This is due to the fact that the stalk will not bend away when inserted into the cakes. As a result, the only thing left to do is wrap the stalks tightly before inserting them into your cake.

    Method 2: Use flower spikes

    Flower spikes are a type of plastic casing that is used to hold flowers in place on cakes.These are cylinder-shaped, with a width similar to that of bubble straws and an overall length of 3 to 4 inches, depending on the manufacturer.One end of the cylinder has a closed pointed end, and the other end does not.This is the end of the cake that will be pierced into the middle of it.The other end features an aperture through which flowers can be inserted.Typically, the outer surface of the spikes is studded with small stones.

    When spikes are used in cakes, this helps to ensure that they stay in place longer.

    While utilizing these flower spikes, you will not need to wrap your flower stalks because there will be no direct contact between the flower stalks and the cake when using them.You would have to gather your blooms together in order for them to be put onto a single spike, which would be an issue.This is due to the fact that the spikes might be a little too large to accommodate a single flower stalk.Alternatively, if you are piercing only one bloom from the spike, you would need to cushion the insides of the spike with tissue (or another suitable substance) to ensure that your flower is securely fastened in the spike.

    Cake decorating using real flower spikes is possible. These are from the town of Wilton. The flower spikes shown in this figure are used to hold flowers in place on cakes, as seen in the diagram. The spikes may be used for both fresh and wired gum paste flowers, depending on your preference.

    Method 3: Use a bubble tea straws or regular drinking straw

    Cake decorating with real flower spikes is a thing. We’re talking about Wilton’s products here. The flower spikes shown in this figure are used to hold flowers in place on cakes, as demonstrated in the diagram. Flowers made of wired gum paste or from fresh flowers can be utilized with the spikes.

    Alternatively, regular-sized drinking straws would work well if you want to insert your flowers into the cake one at a time. I would recommend wrapping the stalks in either cling wrap or aluminum foil. This is due to the fact that the stalks continue to come into touch with your cake (from the bottom opening of the straws).

    Attaching Wired Sugar Flowers to Cakes

    It is quite similar to caring for fresh flowers in terms of how you manage wired sugar flowers or gum paste flowers. With the exception of the fact that because wires are much thinner than fresh flower stacks, utilizing standard straws and flower spikes means that they would require far more cushioning to keep them from falling out of the vase.

    Method 1: Use lollipop sticks
