Better Than Starbucks Iced Coffee Cake

Everyone like coffee cake, and this is by far the greatest you’ll ever eat in your life! It’s better than Starbucks, better than your grandmother’s, and everything a wonderful coffee cake should be and should be well-known to everyone.I’ll be completely honest with you: I’m having trouble writing this post. So, how do you put into words a recipe that you have loved and devoured to the point where you haven’t picked up your fork and felt it sink into such a dense, moist cake, the actual satisfaction of such a perfect bake and texture, until you pick up your fork and feel it sink into such a dense, moist cake, how could my words do anything until you pick up your fork and feel it sink into such a perfect bake and texture?

    1. Moreover, this is only the beginning.
    2. The buttery flavor that almost melts in your tongue only to be instantly changed into a blast of cinnamon and brown sugar streusel that must have come from the most luxurious European bakery that has ever been is unmistakably delicious.
    3. And you’re no longer here.
    4. You’ve vanished in an instant, whisked away to a realm that can only be described as ″paradise on Earth.″ This is the finest coffee cake I’ve ever tasted in my life, hands down.
    • Not simply created, but possessed.
    • This is, without a doubt, the definitive definition of everything that a coffee cake should be.
    • And to finish it off, a drizzle of a basic, clean frosting was applied.

    Kindergarten Tea and Cakes

It was the first day of Kindergarten for our little man when I was in Kindergarten (and yes, I am writing this on the first day of Kindergarten for our little guy, and yes, I am all worked up in tears because it is the end of a season for me, no more littles. But everything will be OK, right?Right?!) Because our family does not drink tea or coffee for religious reasons, I was immediately anxious about what I was going to say at the tea party. The teacher assumed I was more concerned with the flavor of the food and informed me that there would be coffee cake as well.

    1. WHAT?
    2. Increase the difficulty by double!
    3. Cake stuffed with coffee and served with a side of tea!
    4. And what exactly was I planning to do and say?!
    • When the time arrived, the circular tables were jiggling with paper cups as we awaited for our teacher’s helper to begin distributing the refreshments to the students.
    • Oh, I was a nervous wreck!
    • Then there’s the juice, followed by a piece of cinnamon cake.
    • Everything appeared to be in order in the world.
    • There was no one offering coffee or tea to the kindergarteners, but there was plenty of juice and pastries!
    • Oh, that was the most enjoyable experience I’ve ever had, and I’ve been a fan ever since.

    Ingredients Needed for Coffee Cake

    For the Streusel

    • Flour, cinnamon, Kosher salt, brown sugar, white sugar, unsalted butter, and vanilla extract

    For the Cake

    • Unsalted butter, vegetable oil, sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, flour, baking powder, salt, and buttermilk are all used in this recipe.

    For the Icing

    • Powdered Sugar
    • Vanilla
    • Heavy Cream

Please see the recipe card at the end of this page for the measurements that you will require for each item.

    How to Make Coffee Cake

There are three separate phases to constructing this cake, but it’s still really simple to put together! The following are the procedures for each section:

    For the Streusel

    1. In a large mixing basin, whisk together all of the ingredients except the butter.
    2. Remove the butter from the heat and let it aside to cool slightly
    3. Stir in the butter once it has been added to the dry ingredients. Unless the clumps are particularly large, there is no need to break them up.

    For the Cake

    1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and spray a 9-by-13-inch baking sheet
    2. In a standing mixer, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in the oil until it is well incorporated.
    3. After you’ve added the eggs and vanilla, give it another good stir before adding the dry ingredients
    4. In a small bowl, combine the dry ingredients until they are nearly completely combined, then add the buttermilk.
    5. Mix until it’s barely blended, but don’t overmix. Please keep in mind that the batter will be thick.
    • Spread about a third of the batter in the baking dish, then top with a layer of streusel to finish. Repeat the process twice more, finishing with streusel on top.
    • Bake for 50-60 minutes, tenting with aluminum foil if necessary. PRO TIP: The altitude will have an impact on the baking time. We are at an elevation of nearly 4000 feet, and it takes the entire 50-60 minutes. Lower altitudes will result in a shorter baking time, so keep an eye on the clock.

    For the Icing

    1. In a large mixing bowl, add all of the ingredients and whisk well to incorporate
    2. When you have finished baking the cake, allow it to cool somewhat before drizzling the icing on top
    3. Serve it while it’s still warm.

These directions may also be found in further detail in the recipe card at the bottom of this page.. The recipe may also be shared and printed directly from the website.

    Does Coffee Cake Contain Coffee?

It is a soft and delicate cake that is generally covered with some sort of streusel topping and eaten with a cup of coffee. Although certain coffee cakes may include coffee, the term ″coffee cake″ refers to the fact that it is served with coffee rather than the fact that it contains coffee.

What Can You Substitute For Buttermilk?

For each cup of buttermilk, 1 tablespoon of white vinegar or lemon juice can be substituted, as well as enough milk to measure 1 cup total. Allow it to rest for approximately 5 minutes before adding it to the batter.

Can Coffee Cake Be Made Ahead of Time?

This cake is fantastic for making ahead of time! You may prepare it up to two days ahead of time and store it in an airtight container. Keep it at room temperature by wrapping it tightly.

    For the Streusel

    • 3 cups flour
    • 1 cup brown sugar
    • 1/2 cup white sugar
    • 1 teaspoon Kosher salt
    • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
    • 1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks = 1 cup)
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder
    • 1 teaspoon baking soda

    For the Cake

    • Unsalted butter, 2 cups sugar (minus 2 teaspoons), 1/2 cup vegetable oil, 2 big eggs whisked together
    • 1/4 cup buttermilk
    • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    • 4 cups flour
    • 4 teaspoons baking powder
    • 1 teaspoon salt

    For the Icing

    • Powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 3-4 tablespoons heavy cream (milk is fine), and a pinch of salt

    For the Streusel

    • Pour all of the ingredients into a large mixing basin and whisk until well combined.
    • Make a melted butter and set it aside to cool just a little bit so that it is still melted but not hot
    • Stir the butter into the dry ingredients, being careful not to break up any clumps unless they are quite large in size. Remove from consideration

    For the Cake

    • Preheat the oven at 350 degrees and brush a 9×13-inch baking pan with nonstick spray before setting it aside.
    • In the bowl of a standing mixer, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 1 to 2 minutes. Add the oil and combine one more.
    • After you’ve cracked your eggs into the mixer and added the vanilla, give it one more whirl before pouring in all of the dry ingredients. Once nearly completely blended, put in the buttermilk and whisk just until barely combined
    • Spread one-third of the batter evenly in the pan and generously sprinkle with one-third of the streusel.
    • Spread another layer of batter on top of it, followed by another third of the streusel. Repeat the process one more time, finishing with the streusel on top.
    • Alternatively, bake for 50-60 minutes, tenting with foil after 40-45 minutes if it is browning too rapidly, or until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean.
    • Allow it cool somewhat before drizzling with frosting and serving while still warm. (See the footnote.)

    For the Icing

Pour all of the ingredients into a large mixing bowl and whisk together until a constant ribbon of trickle emerges off the whisk (about 5 minutes). Make a mental note to put it away.

    Baking Time

Altitude has a significant role in baking times here, thus your cake may be ready in 40-50 minutes whereas ours is normally ready in 50-60 minutes.

Founded in 1971 in Seattle, Washington by three friends named Jerry Baldwin, Zev Siegl and Gordon Bowker, the first Starbucks store opened its doors in 1971.The three of them had met at the University of San Francisco and decided to start a business after meeting coffee roasting legend Alfred Peet, who encouraged them to do so.When the firm first opened its doors, it was mainly focused on the distribution of coffee beans and coffee roasting equipment, with the sale of brewed coffee following a few years after the first launch. After its inception, the company grew at a rather sluggish pace, reaching a total of six outlets between 1971 and 1986, all of which were located in the greater Seattle region.

    1. However, in 1987, the three made the choice to sell Starbucks to Howard Schultz, a former employee who had become a partner in the company.
    2. Schultz already had a network of coffee shops, and after obtaining the Starbucks name, he proceeded to redesign all of his locations to be consistent with the internationally recognized Starbucks trademark.
    3. Schultz began the global takeover of the business as soon as he completed the purchase of the company.
    4. By 1989, there were 46 outlets spread throughout many states in the United States.
    • With Schultz buying up chain after chain of coffee establishments and merging them with the notorious Starbucks brand over the next few decades, the firm swiftly expanded around the world.
    • The company’s first international site, in Tokyo, Japan, opened in 1996, and the company’s first UK branch, in London, opened in 1998.
    • The corporation currently has a whopping 23,450 sites in over 100 countries.
    • One aspect of their business that distinguishes them from their competition is their adherence to fair trade and farmer equity principles.
    • In order to ensure that all farmers receive a fair price for their beans, each location is expected to show documentation of how much profit they make from the sale of their beans.
    • This devotion is one of the aspects of the firm that has contributed to their increasing popularity with clients; they are concerned about the small guy.

Starbucks has developed tremendously from its humble beginnings in Seattle. As soon as you walk into one of their locations, you’ll be able to choose from a large selection of specialty or whole-bean coffees, cafe lattes, hot chocolates, teas, fresh juices, brownies, bakewell tarts and cookies as well as sandwiches and paninis.Everyone will find something to their liking.Guests may choose from a range of sitting options in-house, including a breakfast type bar near the windows or one of their luxurious velvet sofas, which are evocative of the coziness of your own living room.

    1. Each place has been meticulously planned to ensure your comfort.
    2. When your order is placed, you will be prompted to provide your name and contact information.
    3. After that, your order will be written on your cup, and they will call your order by name as and when it is ready; this truly adds a personal touch.
    4. Starbucks takes great pleasure in having courteous, efficient, and personable employees.
    • Because of the chain’s popularity, customers may have to wait a bit longer than they would like at times; nevertheless, the staff does everything they can to ensure that its customers are satisfied, and the items are well worth the wait.
    • When it comes to pricing, they are a little more costly than other comparable businesses, with costs ranging from $2 to $6 depending on the quantity and type of drink ordered.
    • Although this is an additional cost, it is one that customers have always been ready to pay owing to their dedication to offering fair standards to their suppliers and taking the quality of their products into consideration.
    • Starbucks has maintained its position as one of the world’s most popular coffee cafes for more than 40 years.
    • When you walk into one of their stores today, you’ll discover amazing coffee, high-quality items, comfortable seating places, pleasant service, and a reasonable pricing for everyone.

So it’s no surprise that I adore this dish, which was inspired by Picky Palate’s Copycat Starbucks Cake recipe, but with my own adjustments and advice.

Why You Will Love Starbucks Copycat Coffee Cake

    • BEFORE YOU SERVE IT | Because it freezes well, I usually prepare it the night before.
    • MAKES TWO | Divide the recipe into two round or 88 square pans, unless you have a bigger requirement in which case you should use a 913 pan.
    • FAST AND EASY | The cake’s foundation is made from a basic cake mix
    • TOUCH | Moist with a fantastic buttery, brown sugar crumb topping that rivals Starbucks in quality.

    • Listed below are the ingredients I used
    • you may use any ordinary yellow or vanilla cake mix
    • however, I like this natural cake mix from Trader Joe’s since it contains melted butter instead of oil. Vanilla or yellow cake mix | use all-natural ingredients or your favorite store-bought brand
    • vanilla or yellow frosting
    • To create the cake, use the ingredients on the box | Alternatively, substitute melted butter for oil and milk for water.

    • Breadcrumbs | I use organic, unbleached all-purpose flour
    • Salted Butter | Cut into cubes
    • Cinnamon | This delicious flavoring agent is traditionally used in coffee cake.
    • Brown Sugar | I used light brown sugar, but you may use dark if you want
    • Vanilla Extract | I make my own vanilla extract from scratch.
    • Kosher Salt | to bring out the flavors of the food
    • Powdered sugar | optional, but useful for dusting

TFC PRO HINT | Did you know that you can use any packaged cake or brownie recipe to achieve this result? Melt the butter, substituting it for the oil, and set it aside to cool somewhat before adding it into the dry ingredients.

How to Bake a Tender Coffee Cake

    1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. To make the batter, crack the eggs into a 2 qt mixing dish (or stand mixer) and add the milk (or water) and whisk to combine.
    2. Add the cake mix and combine on medium-high speed for the stated length of time on the box, which is usually approximately 2 minutes.

TFC PRO HINT | Did you know that you can substitute milk for water in your cake mixes as well? It will become moister and less crumbly if you use milk. While mixing, slowly put in the cold butter until it is well incorporated.

Pour half of the batter into two oiled 8-inch square pans or a 9-inch square pan. It made approximately 4 cups of batter; ladle 2 cups of batter into each pan. Eyeballing is also a perfectly acceptable method.

    1. Bake at 350° for 12-18 minutes, or until the center is wiggly and semi-set but not soupy
    2. you don’t want the cake to be totally done because it will be returned to the oven.
    3. If you used a 9-by-13-inch pan, it will take a few minutes longer. Keep in mind that because I bake at a high altitude, you may need to check it sooner or leave it in for a longer period of time. You may also need to change your baking timings accordingly.

How to Make the Best Crumb Topping

    1. Cut the chilled butter into cubes and set aside (I slice the cube lengthwise down the middle then chop the cube into tablespoon sized chunks). You may also shred your cold butter with a box grater and store it in the freezer until you’re ready to use it
    2. alternatively,
    3. In a large mixing basin, combine the all-purpose flour, packed brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla
    4. mix well.
    1. Break out your ″Big Bertha″ and put it to good use
    2. you’ll be glad you did, and it must qualify as exercise, right? Lift it up and down, keeping your elbows snug against your sides, and repeat for 10 reps. I made an attempt.
    3. Don’t forget to add a lovely pinch of sea salt to finish it off.

When you grab a fistful of anything like this, you want it to stay together! Much better, and there’s a lot less mess!

As soon as the cakes are partly baked, remove them from the oven and, using a large spoon, gently break apart the crumb topping and distribute it evenly over the hot cakes. The crumbs will ″sink″ into the cake a little bit as they sink into the cake.Return the pan to the oven and bake for a further 10-15 minutes, slightly underbaking them (about 10-12 minutes) if you want to reheat them in the oven when you are ready to serve.Allow it cool completely on a cooling rack before covering with aluminum foil for simple reheating the next day and freezing the second one for later use.

    1. What is the best way to store coffee cake?
    2. This coffee may be stored on the counter in an airtight jar for 3-4 days without losing its flavor.
    3. Keep it refrigerated for up to a week.
    4. Freeze for a maximum of 6 months.
    • Can I use a white or spice cake mix instead of a box mix?
    • While I have not personally tested them, I see no reason why they might not work; in fact, I believe the spice cake mix would be delicious.
    • Is it true that coffee cake contains coffee?
    • Coffee cakes in the United States do not contain coffee; instead, they are referred to as coffee cakes because we have these pastries with our coffee.
    • Is it possible to add coffee to the coffee cake?
    • Yes!

I would substitute 1 1/4 cup of liquid (milk or water) in the cake mix with 1 cup of strong brewed coffee. You may also make the cake with 1 teaspoon of espresso powder added to the recipe.

Gluten Free Starbucks Copycat Coffee Cake

    • As with many of my recipes, I provide gluten-free alternatives because I have a large number of relatives and friends who are gluten-free
    • my recommendations are listed below: GLUTEN FREE CAKE MIX | Start with your favorite vanilla (my personal fave), yellow, or white gluten free cake mix and then add the rest of the ingredients and follow the recipe directions.
    • IN THE CRUMB MIX | Use a decent cup for cup gluten free all-purpose flour or, even better (in my view), use 12 cups gluten free oat flour and 12 cups gluten free all-purpose flour in the crumb mix.
    • When looking for gluten-free choices, you might want to consider the following recipes: Double Crumb Apple Cake, Strawberry Rhubarb Crumb Bars, and Old Fashioned Apple Crisp are some of the desserts you may make.

Just before serving, sprinkle the top with powdered sugar. Yummy! I hope you like this Starbucks Coffee Cake Copycat recipe as much as I did creating it!

    • The following recipes are included: Ooey-Gooey Cinnamon Rolls with Cream Cheese Frosting, Pumpkin Spice Coffee Cake, Chile Relleno Casserole, Healthy Gluten-Free Breakfast Cookies, Cinnamon Crunch Scones.

Time Required for Preparation: 25 minutes Preparation time: 30 minutes Time allotted: 55 minutes. Deliciously simple, moist, and easy to prepare ahead of time coffee cake that is overflowing with flavor and full of crumb! Starbucks Coffee Cake served as inspiration. In addition, gluten-free instructions are included.

    • (including the components for the cake mix, which include eggs, butter/oil, and water/milk)
    • 1 box Yellow or Vanilla cake mix (substitute with your favorite Gluten Free cake mix)

    • 2 sticks cold, salted butter, cubed
    • 2 cups sour cream
    • 2 14 cups all-purpose flour (I use organic), or GF AP flour or Oat Flour can be used in place of regular flour.
    • One and a half teaspoons cinnamon
    • one and a half cups packed brown sugar
    • one and a half teaspoons vanilla
    • a pinch of salt
    • powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)

    1. Preheat the oven to 350° and coat two 8×8 pans or one 9×13 pan with nonstick spray
    2. set aside.
    3. Prepare the cake mix in a large mixing bowl according to the directions on the package. If you intend to divide the batter, it will be useful if the bowl has measurements on it. If you are substituting butter for oil, make sure the butter has been allowed to cool somewhat before using it to avoid ″cooking″ the eggs.
    4. Mix on medium-high for 2 minutes, scraping down the sides of the bowl once. Pour the batter into the pan that has been prepared (s). Preheat the oven to 350 degrees for 12-18 minutes, or until the middle is wiggly, barely set, but not soupy

    Crumb Topping

    1. Combine the butter, flour, brown sugar, vanilla, and salt in a large mixing bowl fitted with a paddle attachment and mix until the butter is fully integrated and the mixture is consistent in texture, with no big lumps of butter
    2. As soon as the cakes have done their first baking, remove them from the oven and quickly crumble the topping over them, distributing them evenly.
    3. Continue baking for an additional 10-15 minutes after removing the pan from the oven. Remove from the oven on the early side (approximately 10 minutes) if you plan to freeze or serve later
    4. otherwise, bake for 10-15 minutes at 300 degrees until ready to serve.
    5. Cut into squares and sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving. If you’re freezing it, let it cool fully before wrapping it up. To reheat, wrap the dish in aluminum foil and bake it at 275° for 20-30 minutes. Taking the foil off for the last 5-10 minutes.

    1. Straightforward instructions on everything from preparing to keeping your cake These five strategies for keeping your cakes wet are essential in preventing your cakes from drying out!
    2. Oh my goodness, I had such a difficult time coming up with a title for this post.
    3. There is something about the term ″wet″ that bothers me.
    4. It makes me feel uncomfortable.
    • I really tried to come up with another term to use, but I couldn’t.
    • I went through a thesaurus (I say that like it was a real book, but it was actually and attempted to come up with another term that I could use instead.
    • However, these alternatives did not appear to be particularly appealing: Here are 5 suggestions to keep your cake moist.
    • Keep Your Cake from Turning Soggy With These 5 Tips 5 Suggestions to Keep Your Cake Fresh and Flavorful Here are 5 suggestions to keep your cake moist.
    • 5 Tips to Help Keep Your Cake From Being Dried Out Because ″Not Dry″ sounds amusing, it was tempting to use that phrase instead.
    • But, after giving myself a smack and reminding myself that not everyone is as strange about things as I am, I chose to stay with 5 recommendations to help keep your cakes moist instead of using ″Not Dry.″ However, it’s possible that I’ve destroyed the word for you as well.

Sorry. Is it appropriate to merely speak about cake for the time being? There are few things in this world that are as unappealing as a cake that has been left to dry out.Even the most delicious cake flavor in the world will not be able to compensate for a dry feel in your tongue.Sawdust is hardly something you would like eating merely because it was flavored with the best Madagascan vanilla beans, would you?

But what can you do to ensure that you don’t wind up with sawdust on your hands and clothes? The most evident is that you should begin with a well-tested formula. The fact that it’s clear means that I’m not even including it as one of my tips (although if you’d want to give me credit for a bonus tip, that’s OK with me as well).Recipes including components such as oil, sour cream, and buttermilk are frequently described as being extremely creamy. If you’re looking for recipes on the internet, look at the star ratings on the recipe card, then scroll down to read the comments area. You can almost bet that if someone tried the recipe and found it to be dry, they’ll have gone online to express their dissatisfaction with it.

However, keep in mind that it’s possible that many individuals like the dish but haven’t expressed their appreciation. They may also have done something differently from the person who authored the recipe, or they may have saved it wrongly (or any of the other things I’ll address in this piece) than the original author. The majority of people are content to keep their mouths/fingers shut if they enjoy something because, honestly, they’re too busy stuffing wonderful cake into their faces to make a comment if they do like something.

To summarize, if you’re looking for recipes online, read the reviews first, but the only way to know for sure is to give it a go yourself.- If you happen to have a tried-and-true recipe that was passed down to you by a friend, grandma, or a favorite neighbor, all the better.Let’s have a look at some of the suggestions.

5 Tips to Help Keep Your Cakes Moist

    1. Don’t Over-Bake Your Cake.

This one should be pretty self-explanatory, right?A cake that has been overbaked will undoubtedly be dry.In addition, it’s crumbly. In addition to being a little browned and crusty on the outside.

    1. When you overbake a cake, the moisture from the cake batter will evaporate rather than remaining inside the cake, which is what we want.
    2. Other than the obvious don’t-completely-forget that your cake is in the oven, how do you go about making sure your cake doesn’t become over-baked?
    3. First and foremost, I would recommend purchasing an oven thermometer.
    4. Home ovens can frequently operate at far higher or lower temperatures than the temperature control indicates.
    • They can also have hot and cold patches, which can affect the amount of time it takes for whatever you put inside to bake.
    • If you have a feeling that your oven’s temperature is incorrect or that you may have hot spots, I recommend conducting a little test (when you aren’t going to bake a cake) to confirm your suspicions.
    • Preheat your oven to the temperature at which you normally bake, with your thermometer positioned in the center of the oven.
    • Make little adjustments to the oven temperature every ten minutes or so, then leave it for a few minutes before checking the reading (keep in mind that most thermometers take a little while to adjust, so give it time).
    • When you are baking, experiment with different settings in the oven to see whether it is genuinely running hot or cold.
    • Make a note of the temperature difference so you can consider it in the next time you bake and adjust the temperature dial accordingly.

Once you’ve determined that the oven is at the proper temperature for the cake you’re baking and the recipe you’re using, you may begin checking on your cake at the end of the shortest baking time recommended by the recipe.Make no attempt to open the oven door before the time has passed, since the temperature decrease will cause the cake to sink, and there will be no way to save it if this occurs. So start checking after the bare minimum of time, and if the cake isn’t done yet, use your best judgment to determine how much longer you should leave it before examining it once again.Take note of how long it takes to bake once it has been completed so you will know how long it will take the following time.Looking for more information on testing your cake’s completion?

Check out this post I made a while back on how to determine whether your cake is finished.By using those approaches, you will be able to tell for certain when your cake is done, and you will not be tempted to keep it in the oven ″for a little longer, just to be sure.″

    2. Use Baking Strips.

The use of baking strips will protect the outside of the cake from burning and will also help to slow down the browning of the crust, which will prevent the cake from drying out before the center is done.Baking strips are especially useful when baking dense cakes such as mud cakes or fruitcakes, which require a long, slow cooking time to be done properly. You may wrap your cake pans in old towels soaked in water, or you can construct baking strips out of aluminum foil. You can see my guide on how to make baking strips here: How to Make Baking Strips.

    3. Don’t Underestimate The Importance Of Sugar.

I understand that in these days of ″sugar is evil,″ it would be tempting to look at a recipe and think, ″surely it doesn’t need so much sugar?!″ I get that. But, before you start lowering the quantity of sugar in a recipe, keep in mind that sugar is used in baking for more than just sweetness.Sugar is hygroscopic, which means that it attracts water and has the capacity to keep it in its crystal structure. This helps to preserve the moisture in your cake rather of allowing it to evaporate when the cake is baking or while the cake is being kept in a refrigerator or freezer.

    1. Sugar, in fact, has the ability to absorb moisture from the air (which is why your crisp cookies might become mushy if they are not stored properly, especially if they are stored in a humid area).
    2. The capacity of a cake to hold onto moisture is reduced as the sugar in a recipe is reduced, resulting in a drier cake when the sugar is reduced.
    3. Also bear in mind that brown sugar is much more hygroscopic than white sugar, so if you have a recipe in which maintaining a light color isn’t critical, you might want to try substituting part of the white sugar with brown
