Review: Domino’s – Chocolate Lava Crunch Cakes

Chocolate Lava Crunch Cakes, one of the few desserts available at Domino’s Pizza, are roasted in a pizza oven until they’re crunchy on the exterior and gooey, liquid chocolate on the interior, creating a delicious combination.Once they’ve been sprinkled with powdered sugar, they’re packaged and sold for $3.99 for a pair of cakes. While I didn’t have high expectations for Domino’s Chocolate Lava Crunch Cakes, I was pleasantly delighted to discover that they’re actually rather tasty. They have the texture and flavor of a newly baked Oreo cookie, but instead of vanilla cream, they have a warm, thick, sweet chocolatey syrup in the center. If you’ve ever eaten a delicious, deep-fried Oreo, you’ll know what I’m talking about; the interior is soft and warm.

However, the crust rapidly gave way to a warm, soft inside within a short period of time. However, they are a little on the tiny side in comparison to the price; they measure around 2 1/2 to 3 inches in diameter.Even so, Domino’s Chocolate Lava Crunch Cakes are my top selection for the tastiest dessert on the Domino’s menu, but for the same price, you can have eight deep-fried apple pies from KFC!Nutritional Information from the Domino’s Pizza Website for the Domino’s Chocolate Lava Crunch Cake – per cake (85g) 350 calories per serving (from Fat – 150) 17 g of fat (Saturated Fat – 10g) Sodium is 170 milligrams.Carbohydrates: 47 g (Sugar – 31g) 4 g of protein

How To Reheat A Chocolate Lava Cake – I Test 3 Methods [Pics]

Assuming that you’ve ordered the chocolate lava cake for dessert, but you’re far too full to eat it — what should you do now?The thought of throwing it away would be criminal, which is why I’ve tried three alternative methods to preserve this delightful delicacy as fresh, moist, and chocolatey-flavored as possible. The last thing you want is a cake that has dried up and lost its characteristic gooey middle.Fortunately, there are methods and measures that may be used to avoid this from occurring.Continue reading to learn how to preserve and reheat chocolate lava cake in the most effective manner.

I’ll even teach you a tip for keeping the center as lava-like as possible in the future.

A note on my experiment

  • The majority of the time when it comes to chocolate lava cakes, I tend to overestimate the quantity needed and end up with some leftovers. (There isn’t a peep out of anyone here!) The same thing happened to me last night, and naturally, I wasn’t going to let the opportunity pass me by. To avoid sacrificing the cake’s gooey, sticky centers and moist, cakey shells, I experimented with three different reheating methods, including: baking in the oven (the best method overall)
  • microwaving (the worst method, which turns the cake spongey)
  • and baking in the air fryer (the best method, which produces results that are similar to the oven method).

The oven approach yielded the most favorable outcomes. While the outside of my lava cake was a little drier than it would have been if it had been freshly made, the interior was still moist and wonderful. The microwave findings, on the other hand, were completely unsatisfactory. My attempts to keep the cake moist failed, and the result was a cake that was overdone, thick, and stodgy in texture. After being warmed in the air fryer, my lava cake was comparable to the one I made in the oven, but with a little crunchier outside.

Reheating a chocolate lava cake in the oven

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (180 degrees Celsius).A baking pan should be lined with aluminum foil before beginning.Place your chocolate lava cake on a baking sheet and place it in the oven for 8 to 10 minutes to warm it through. After that, take the cake from the oven and serve it right away, if possible. You may also use aluminum foil to shield your lava cake from being exposed to too much direct heat.

How to reheat a chocolate lava cake in the oven:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (180 degrees Celsius).
  2. Place your lava cake on a baking sheet lined with tin foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  3. Warm the cake for 8 to 10 minutes on a low heat.
  4. Remove the cake from the oven and serve it as soon as it comes out.

Consider using a needleless, clean syringe to inject liquid chocolate sauce directly into your lava cake to give it a much-needed boost. For a richer, creamier taste, serve this wonderful dessert with a serving of caramel, ice cream, or chocolate sauce beside it. This is a great method for reheating a large number of chocolate lava cakes at the same time.

My verdict

This approach was particularly appealing to me since it allowed me to preserve the moist lava middle of my cake. When I originally cooked it, it was a little drier than it should have been, but I was able to address this problem using my clever sauce injection technique.Adding a dollop of vanilla ice cream to my portion of cake restored the cake’s original flavor. This approach is the safest and most easy way to reheat lava cakes, and I would strongly advise you to use it.

Reheating a chocolate lava cake in the microwave

Place the chocolate lava cake on a microwave-safe dish and cover it with a moist paper towel to prevent it from burning. On a medium setting, cook the cake in 20-second intervals until you are pleased with the level of temperature it has reached. Serve as soon as possible. Time is critical in this recipe because if the cake is left in the microwave for too long, it will become overcooked.

How to reheat a chocolate lava cake in the microwave:

  1. Place your lava cake on a platter that can be microwaved
  2. Cover the cake with a moist paper towel to prevent it from drying out.
  3. Warm the cake in 20-second intervals on a medium heat setting
  4. To serve, remove the paper towel when it has been heated through.

The use of a damp paper towel in the cake helps to restore some moisture to the cake.Because of the nature of this approach, it is quite simple to overheat the cake, which results in partial frying of the molten center.Similarly to the oven procedure, infusing liquid chocolate sauce into the cake can assist to return a little of sauciness to the cake.If your microwave warms up quickly, you might want to attempt warming your lava cake in 10-second intervals rather than continuously.

My verdict

This was the most disappointing strategy I tried out of all of them.Even with the use of a paper towel to increase moisture, my cake came out rough, spongey, and thick – nothing like what I had envisioned when I initially started baking it.Whatever I did, no matter how meticulous I was with my time, the battery lava center baked and became cakey.Aside from the fact that it is convenient, I would advise against using this strategy.

Reheating a chocolate lava cake in the air fryer

Preheat your air fryer to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (180 degrees Celsius).Make a line in the basket with aluminum foil and insert your chocolate lava cake within.Warm the cake for 5 to 6 minutes on a low heat setting. The cake should be removed from the fryer basket and served immediately after it has reached the desired temperature. As with the oven method, you can make this dessert even more impressive by injecting additional chocolate sauce and presenting it with caramel or ice cream on the side.

How to reheat chocolate lava cake in the air fryer:

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (180 degrees Celsius)
  2. Wrap the frying basket in aluminum foil.
  3. Bake for 5 to 6 minutes, depending on how large the cake is, in the basket.
  4. Remove the cake from the basket and place it on a serving tray.

If the cake’s saucy core spills out, the use of foil or parchment paper in the basket will help to contain the mess. The lava cake parts should be heated individually rather than in batches to ensure that they are uniformly warmed and not crowded together. Keep a tight check on the cake while it is heating up to avoid scorching the outside of the cake.

My verdict

This procedure yielded good results, similar to the oven method, and it was also somewhat faster than the oven method. A little grit to the cake’s outside was a welcome addition, and the core was ooey and gooey, as was the center of the cake. If you’re simply seeking to reheat a single serving of food and you’re in a hurry, the air fryer is an excellent option.

How to reheat a Domino’s lava cake

The oven is the best technique for reheating Domino’s lava cake, in my opinion. To begin, preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (180 degrees Celsius).Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with aluminum foil.Place the lava cake on a baking sheet and place it in the oven for 8 to 10 minutes to warm it through. After that, take it from the oven and serve it right away, if possible.

The air fryer approach described above can also be used if you need to cook something quickly and don’t mind a little crunch in your food. Both of these ways are excellent for reheating Chili’s lava cakes, as well as other baked goods.

It is absolutely possible to create chocolate lava cakes in advance of serving them.Keeping them unbaked until just before you intend to serve them is the key to success. To put it another way, if you’re intending to make chocolate lava cakes ahead of time, prepare the batter and pour it into greased, parchment-paper-lined ramekins beforehand.Wrap the ramekins tightly in plastic wrap and place them in the refrigerator for up to one day before baking the desserts.Bake the cakes at a very high temperature (425°F/220°C) when you’re ready to serve them, since this will result in a warm, cakey outside and a molten, delectable middle when they’ve finished baking.

How to store a chocolate lava cake

Can you freeze a chocolate lava cake?

The procedure of freezing lava cakes involves two steps. Before anything else, arrange your cakes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper (so that they don’t touch) and place them in the freezer for 3-4 hours. As soon as they’re almost frozen, wrap them in plastic wrap and place them in a freezer bag, making sure to squeeze out any leftover air before sealing the bag.It is easier to keep your cakes from sticking together or disintegrating if you freeze them individually rather than in a batch.

How to thaw a chocolate lava cake

The best method for thawing frozen chocolate lava cakes is to place them in the refrigerator overnight. Once they have been defrosted, allow them to come to room temperature before reheating them in the microwave.

How to reheat a frozen chocolate lava cake

You may defrost frozen lava cakes overnight and then reheat them in the oven, microwave, or air fryer, as described in the previous section. If you prefer, you may reheat them from frozen in an oven warmed to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius) for 15 to 18 minutes or in an air fryer (at the same temperature) for 12 to 15 minutes. If you are reheating your cakes, make sure you check them frequently to ensure that they do not become burnt.Baking sheets and fryer baskets should both be lined with aluminum foil to prevent them from sticking and producing a mess. You may use ice cream or sauce to moisten your reheated lava cake, or you can inject some liquid chocolate into the middle of the cake if it appears to be a little dry.

  • When it comes to this chocolate lava cake recipe, there are no substitutes for the eggs. For the greatest results, I recommend using eggs that are at room temperature.
  • Sugar in the form of granules
  • In all of my dessert making, I use organic cane sugar, but you can use conventional white sugar if you want
  • Vanilla Extract is optional. Please make certain that you are using pure vanilla extract (not imitation or vanilla-flavored extracts). If desired, you can substitute vanilla bean paste for the flour. The flour in this recipe may be made from a variety of different sources, all of which have shown to be successful in my testing. Because recipe only asks for 1 tablespoon, it’s simple to adapt adjustments to meet your specific dietary requirements (e.g. gluten-free). If you want to make this chocolate lava cake recipe, I’ve had luck using the following flour combinations: bread flour
  • Almond flour
  • All-purpose gluten-free flour
  • Oat flour
  • Tapioca flour
  • all-purpose flour

How to make chocolate lava cakes

These chocolate lava cakes are really simple to prepare! But (as usual), I want to accompany you through the process to assure your success! You can also watch the video at the bottom of this page to learn how they are constructed in detail!

Gather materials/Ingredients

Gathering all of the supplies and ingredients necessary to produce this molten lava cake recipe is the first step I like to do. There are only six ingredients in total, so this step is a piece of cake.

Use a large Silicone Muffin Cups

If you are a lover of chocolate lava cake and intend on making this dish again and over again, these Silicone Mini Cake Pans/Large Muffin Cups or this Large Silicone Muffin Pan are the only ″special″ items I recommend purchasing.Using these big silicone muffin cups makes removal of the cake from the pan much easier than using a standard muffin tin.Because I enjoy serving chocolate lava cake to guests when we have them over for dinner as a special, beautiful dessert, I am quite particular about how it is presented. And being able to remove them from their baking pan without difficulty is essential for creating beautiful miniature molten lava cakes that stick together well!

Melt the Chocolate & Butter

Making this chocolate lava cake recipe is as simple as melting the butter and chocolate together in a saucepan over a low heat. It is possible to accomplish this in one of two ways:

  1. In the microwave, to be precise. Microwave the butter and chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl until barely melted, about 30 seconds (about 60-90 seconds). Begin by heating for 60 seconds while stirring, and then continuing to heat in 30 second increments while stirring after each until the liquid is melted and smooth
  2. The cooktop has been set at medium-low heat for this recipe. Additionally, you may gently melt the butter and chocolate together in a small saucepan on a low heat on the stovetop as well. Ensure that you whisk the liquid constantly and that it is completely smooth before removing it from the fire.

Once the butter/chocolate combination is silky smooth and totally melted, remove it from the heat and keep it away for use in the recipe later on.

Beat the eggs.

The eggs should be beaten until they are light and pale in color, either with a standing mixer or a hand mixer (for about 60 seconds). The texture and heartiness of this chocolate lava cake recipe are much enhanced as a result of this step, so do not omit it!

Beat in sugar & salt

The sugar and salt should be added after the eggs are light and pale in color. Beat until the sugar is entirely dissolved. To make the video, I used a hand mixer, but I normally use a standing mixer with the wire whisk attachment.

Beat in melted chocolate & vanilla

Is there a ″beating″ motif running through this recipe? By this time, the melted chocolate should have cooled slightly and be ready to be incorporated into the molten lava cake mixture (see note below) (along with the vanilla). Beat the mixture until it is homogeneous (that is, uniform throughout) and smooth.

Gently stir in flour

Finally, but certainly not least, incorporate the flour of your choosing (see notes on what types I recommend later on in the post or in the recipe card). This time, use a low speed to mix the mixture until the flour is just barely mixed. The final batter will be thick and have a dark chocolate tint to it, as seen in the photo (pictured below).

Pour into baking cups & bake

Place the silicone baking cups or silicone muffin pan on a flat baking sheet to prevent them from sliding around.Scoop the mixture into the baking cups or the wells of a muffin tray using a 12 cup measuring cup to ensure uniform distribution.Because these are big baking cups (3 12″), the recipe makes four chocolate lava cakes, which bake in around 10-12 minutes at 350 degrees F.In the event that you are using a smaller baking dish, make sure to modify the baking time accordingly.I’ve also created smaller molten lava cakes, and this recipe makes 6 of them; however, the baking time will increase to between 8 and 9 minutes if you do so.

How do you know when lava cake is done?

When the top of the molten chocolate lava cake is puffy but not quite set, the cake is finished baking and ready to serve. It will continue to be jiggly, which is a positive development. A hardened top will imply that the interior has hardened as well, and you will not be able to get any sticky lava flow out, which will make for an unhappy day! Whomp, whomp, whomp.

Let the chocolate lava cake cool slightly.

Allow the molten lava cake to cool in the baking cups for 2-3 minutes before removing it from the pan. This will guarantee that the cakes remain stable during the transfer process. As the tops cool, they will naturally sink a little amount, which is entirely normal.

Turn chocolate lava cakes out onto serving plates.

To serve, carefully flip each chocolate lava cake out onto a serving dish and gently remove the silicone cup that has been placed on top of the cake.I propose that you place the molten lava cake straight onto the plate that will be used to serve it to your guests.Moving them once they have been plated is challenging, and transferring them more than once increases the likelihood that they may come apart throughout the process.

Garnish & Serve

  • With this chocolate lava cake recipe, the sky is the limit in terms of how you may present it. Here are a few examples of my recommendations: homemade whipped cream (or strawberry whipped cream) and a dusting of cocoa powder or powdered sugar are all options.
  • Berries that are in season
  • Ice cream (try this homemade vanilla ice cream or this homemade chocolate ice cream)
  • dessert (try this homemade vanilla ice cream or this homemade chocolate ice cream)
  • Peanut butter (you may create your own homemade peanut butter from scratch).

To make in advance

Baking the dough up to one day ahead of time and storing it in the refrigerator is highly recommended.Simply bring it back to room temperature an hour before baking, and then proceed as directed in the recipe.I frequently prepare them ahead of time and then bake them in the oven halfway through the meal so that they are still fresh and warm when dinner guests come.If you want to bake the cake after it has been created, I recommend putting the batter in the refrigerator to keep it fresh longer.

Store

Lava cakes can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days after they have been made. Reheat in the microwave or in a preheated oven on the warm setting.

Dominos Pizza Allergy Alert

Domino’s Pizza no longer offers nut-free options. They introduced their new chocolate lava crunch cakes in Canada around two weeks ago, with the labeling indicating the presence of peanuts and tree nuts in the production facility.I chatted with the manager of the store that was close by.She provided me the phone number for the company’s headquarters and said that the cakes are delivered in tin foil and cooked in that foil before being unmolded and placed in a box. When it comes to handling the cakes, no measures are taken, and the employee would then move on to boxing a pizza.

Aside from the fact that she did not get allergy alert signs, the allergen information on the Canadian website that I visited had not been updated.I did find the following allergy information on the Domino’s Australian website, which lists peanuts and tree nuts as ingredients in the lava cakes (as well as the brownies and ice cream, which aren’t currently available on the Canadian menu): Allergen Listing Dominos AU Dec 2010 As the mother of a son who is allergic to peanuts and tree nuts, we avoid all traces of these nuts, even if they are in little amounts. As a result, my kid will no longer be able to participate in Domino’s Pizza Day at his elementary school. My hot lunch coordinator and school administrator have been informed of this problem, and they will warn the other allergic families as soon as possible.Additionally, I’ve reached out to the Domino’s corporate office and offered to speak with them about safety practices to reduce the chance of cross-contamination on hot lunch days, in order for families like ours to once again be able to participate.** Please visit my blog to read more articles or to leave a comment if you are reading this as an e-mail message: click here if you are reading this as an email message.

Molten Lava Cake

These Molten Lava Cakes are a dangerously tempting treat to indulge in.As a matter of fact, I may or may not have had three of the four Chocolate Lava Cakes I baked for this post on the same day.I put it down to the sickness I was suffering from at the time, which meant nothing else sounded nice to eat on that particular day, but deep inside I knew the reality – the warm, oozing, liquid chocolate truth. So, how do Lava Cakes taste like, exactly?Every forkful of this cake is drenched in velvety chocolate thanks to the combination of a soft warm chocolate cake on the exterior and a creamy, smooth stream of warm liquid chocolate on the interior.

It will be love at first bite for everyone who tries it.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SOUFFLE AND A MOLTEN LAVA CAKE?

  • Before we go into the recipe for this chocolate lava cake, let’s define what a chocolate lava cake is. In what ways are soufflés and lava cakes different from one another? In appearance, soufflés and molten lava cakes are quite similar to one another. They also include many of the same ingredients and are served with identical toppings, leading many to assume that they are the same dish. These distinctions may be found in both the texture of the desserts as well as their appearance.
  • Unlike a lava cake, which has a runny, chocolaty liquid middle, a soufflé is completely cooked through
  • nevertheless, this does not imply that soufflés have the same consistency as a cake, which they do not. If you look at it closely, the core of a soufflé is obviously moist, much more so than a slice of conventional cake would be.
  • The soufflé has a delicate texture and a merengue look on top, which is a nice touch. Molten lava cake is available in a number of tastes, including chocolate, lemon, and even cheese
  • nevertheless, it only has one flavor: chocolate! A soufflé is denser than a torte and, as previously indicated, it is filled with a river of chocolate-lava that pours out of the middle when the torte is sliced into.
  • Instead of serving molten lava cakes in their cooking containers, many people like to scoop them out of their ramekins and place them on a plate so that all of the gooey goodness may flow freely. Aren’t you simply itching to get your hands on a piece of chocolate molten lava cake right now?

WHEN WAS CHOCOLATE LAVA CAKE INVENTED?

This dessert was created in 1987 by Jean-Georges Vongerichten, a chef in New York City, and is widely considered to be the first of its kind.Having taken a sponge cake out of the oven too soon, Vongerichten discovered that, while the center was still fluid, the exterior of the cake had a texture and flavor that he like.Fun Food Fact: Jean-Georges Vongerichten is the chef and owner of the world-renowned Jean-Georges restaurant, which is housed in the Trump International Hotel and Tower in New York City.Keep up with me, because there’s a food war on the horizon. In an interview with the New York Times, French chef and chocolatier Jacques Torres, who also happens to be a judge and co-host of the renowned cooking program Nailed It!, claims that the lava cake had been around in France before Vongerichten claimed to have developed it, said.

Our lives have been blessed by the invention of the Chocolate Lava Cake, regardless matter where the truth rests.

Lava Cake Recipe

These individual Molten Chocolate Lava Cakes of Delight, which I’ll be serving along with the Blackberry Hoisin Ginger Pork Tenderloin I’ll be serving, appear and taste like they’re made from scratch, but they’re actually quite simple to create.Chocolate Lava Cakes have always seemed to me to be tough to produce or master since they taste really divine, and it takes work to reach to paradise.I was completely wrong.A Lava Cake Recipe just only 5 ingredients (chocolate, butter, sugar, eggs, and flour) and can be prepared in less than 10 minutes, which I found to be a nice surprise.Even better, you won’t have to break out a single pot or electric mixer!

All you need is a bowl and a whisk, just as in the old days.

CHOCOLATE LAVA CAKE INGREDIENTS:

  • This recipe for Chocolate Lava Cakes is fantastic since it can be made entirely using pantry goods! All you need are the following items: You will need 4 ounces of your favorite baking chocolate bar, not chocolate chips, to make the semi-sweet chocolate sauce. Using chocolate chunks will not yield the same ″lava″ core that we are aiming for. For the greatest results, use high-quality chocolate such as Ghirardelli, Nestle, or Lindt. If you adore dark chocolate, you may substitute it for the semi-sweet chocolate in this recipe. Semi-sweet chocolate is technically dark chocolate, but it is not as dark as certain other types of chocolate.
  • We’ll use unsalted butter so that we can keep the salt under control.
  • If you’re using powdered sugar, don’t use granulated.
  • 2 entire eggs and 2 egg yolks will be used, for a total of 4 eggs
  • 2 whole eggs and 2 egg yolks will be used.
  • Just one-eighth teaspoon of salt will plenty to enhance the chocolate flavor
  • Gluten-free 1 to 1 baking flour (I use all-purpose flour, but I’m sure a gluten-free 1 to 1 baking flour will work just as well)

What Supplies do I need to Make Chocolate Lava Cakes?

  • Soufflé cups are ramekins, which are also known as soufflé cups. The size of the ramekins is important since it determines the depth and width of the lava cake, which will have an impact on the amount of time it takes to cook. I used four 6 oz. cans of tuna for this dish. ramekins. Alternatively, you may use smaller or bigger ramekins, but you will need to alter the baking time to account for the size of the ramekins.
  • If you don’t have any ramekins on hand, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with our muffin pan! The muffin cups in a typical muffin pan/cupcake pan hold 4 oz. of batter, which is less than our 6 oz. In order to use ramekins, you will need to split the mixture between 6 muffin cups rather than 4 muffin cups and bake for 8-10 minutes.
  • The use of cooking spray WITH flour rather than simply cooking spray (it will mention on the front label whether it contains flour) will ensure that your chocolate lava cakes will slide out of the pan easily.

HOW TO MAKE A MOLTEN LAVA CAKE

This Chocolate Lava Cake Recipe is really simple to prepare! Here is a step-by-step overview of how to make flawless lava cakes every time:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. The temperature at which we will bake our Chocolate Lava Cakes will be 425 degrees F. The high heat guarantees that the surface of our cake bakes completely while leaving our middle melted
  2. Melt the butter and chocolate together in a double boiler. In a large microwave-safe mixing bowl, combine the butter and baking chocolate. This will serve as our mixing dish, so make sure you select a large enough basin to accommodate all of your lava cake components. Microwave the butter and chocolate for one minute, stirring constantly, until the chocolate is absolutely smooth.
  3. Sugar should be whisked in. After that, mix in the sugar until it is entirely dissolved. Using this method, you may temper the hot chocolate mixture before adding the eggs.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and egg yolks until smooth.
  6. Toss in the flour. Stir in the flour until it’s just barely mixed. As with other cakes, you don’t want to over-mix the batter since the gluten in the wheat will make the cake thick and difficult to cut.
  7. Pour the batter into the ramekins. I prefer to use a measuring cup to ensure that the batter is distributed evenly. The Chocolate Lava Cakes will bake unevenly if your batter is not evenly divided
  8. if your batter is not evenly divided
  9. Bake. Place the ramekins on a baking sheet and bake for 12-13 minutes, or until the edges are hard but the centers are still soft. Invert the ramekins and repeat the baking process. Please allow for no more than 2 minutes of cooling time – NO LONGER – you may wish to set a timer for this. If you leave the lava cakes in the ramekins for any longer than necessary, you run the danger of the lava core becoming nonexistent. Using a knife, gently release the cakes from their ramekins and flip them onto serving plates
  10. then repeat with the remaining cakes.
  11. Serve as soon as possible. Powdered sugar (optional) or any of the toppings listed below can be sprinkled on top of the chocolate
