Gathering all of the supplies and ingredients necessary to produce this molten lava cake recipe is the first step I like to do. There are only six ingredients in total, so this step is a piece of cake.
Use a large Silicone Muffin Cups
If you are a lover of chocolate lava cake and intend on making this dish again and over again, these Silicone Mini Cake Pans/Large Muffin Cups or this Large Silicone Muffin Pan are the only ″special″ items I recommend purchasing.Using these big silicone muffin cups makes removal of the cake from the pan much easier than using a standard muffin tin.Because I enjoy serving chocolate lava cake to guests when we have them over for dinner as a special, beautiful dessert, I am quite particular about how it is presented.And being able to remove them from their baking pan without difficulty is essential for creating beautiful miniature molten lava cakes that stick together well!
Melt the Chocolate & Butter
Making this chocolate lava cake recipe is as simple as melting the butter and chocolate together in a saucepan over a low heat. It is possible to accomplish this in one of two ways:
- In the microwave, to be precise. Microwave the butter and chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl until barely melted, about 30 seconds (about 60-90 seconds). Begin by heating for 60 seconds while stirring, and then continuing to heat in 30 second increments while stirring after each until the liquid is melted and smooth
- The cooktop has been set at medium-low heat for this recipe. Additionally, you may gently melt the butter and chocolate together in a small saucepan on a low heat on the stovetop as well. Ensure that you whisk the liquid constantly and that it is completely smooth before removing it from the fire.
Once the butter/chocolate combination is silky smooth and totally melted, remove it from the heat and keep it away for use in the recipe later on.
Beat the eggs.
The eggs should be beaten until they are light and pale in color, either with a standing mixer or a hand mixer (for about 60 seconds). The texture and heartiness of this chocolate lava cake recipe are much enhanced as a result of this step, so do not omit it!
Beat in sugar & salt
The sugar and salt should be added after the eggs are light and pale in color. Beat until the sugar is entirely dissolved. To make the video, I used a hand mixer, but I normally use a standing mixer with the wire whisk attachment.
Beat in melted chocolate & vanilla
Is there a ″beating″ motif running through this recipe? By this time, the melted chocolate should have cooled slightly and be ready to be incorporated into the molten lava cake mixture (see note below) (along with the vanilla). Beat the mixture until it is homogeneous (that is, uniform throughout) and smooth.
Gently stir in flour
Finally, but certainly not least, incorporate the flour of your choosing (see notes on what types I recommend later on in the post or in the recipe card). This time, use a low speed to mix the mixture until the flour is just barely mixed. The final batter will be thick and have a dark chocolate tint to it, as seen in the photo (pictured below).
Pour into baking cups & bake
Place the silicone baking cups or silicone muffin pan on a flat baking sheet to prevent them from sliding around.Scoop the mixture into the baking cups or the wells of a muffin tray using a 12 cup measuring cup to ensure uniform distribution.Because these are big baking cups (3 12″), the recipe makes four chocolate lava cakes, which bake in around 10-12 minutes at 350 degrees F.In the event that you are using a smaller baking dish, make sure to modify the baking time accordingly.I’ve also created smaller molten lava cakes, and this recipe makes 6 of them; however, the baking time will increase to between 8 and 9 minutes if you do so.
How do you know when lava cake is done?
When the top of the molten chocolate lava cake is puffy but not quite set, the cake is finished baking and ready to serve. It will continue to be jiggly, which is a positive development. A hardened top will imply that the interior has hardened as well, and you will not be able to get any sticky lava flow out, which will make for an unhappy day! Whomp, whomp, whomp.
Let the chocolate lava cake cool slightly.
Allow the molten lava cake to cool in the baking cups for 2-3 minutes before removing it from the pan. This will guarantee that the cakes remain stable during the transfer process. As the tops cool, they will naturally sink a little amount, which is entirely normal.
Turn chocolate lava cakes out onto serving plates.
To serve, carefully flip each chocolate lava cake out onto a serving dish and gently remove the silicone cup that has been placed on top of the cake.I propose that you place the molten lava cake straight onto the plate that will be used to serve it to your guests.Moving them once they have been plated is challenging, and transferring them more than once increases the likelihood that they may come apart throughout the process.
Garnish & Serve
- With this chocolate lava cake recipe, the sky is the limit in terms of how you may present it. Here are a few examples of my recommendations: homemade whipped cream (or strawberry whipped cream) and a dusting of cocoa powder or powdered sugar are all options.
- Berries that are in season
- Ice cream (try this homemade vanilla ice cream or this homemade chocolate ice cream)
- dessert (try this homemade vanilla ice cream or this homemade chocolate ice cream)
- Peanut butter (you may create your own homemade peanut butter from scratch).
To make in advance

Dominos Pizza Allergy Alert
Domino’s Pizza no longer offers nut-free options.They introduced their new chocolate lava crunch cakes in Canada around two weeks ago, with the labeling indicating the presence of peanuts and tree nuts in the production facility.I chatted with the manager of the store that was close by.She provided me the phone number for the company’s headquarters and said that the cakes are delivered in tin foil and cooked in that foil before being unmolded and placed in a box.When it comes to handling the cakes, no measures are taken, and the employee would then move on to boxing a pizza.

CHOCOLATE LAVA CAKE INGREDIENTS:
- This recipe for Chocolate Lava Cakes is fantastic since it can be made entirely using pantry goods! What Supplies do I need to Make Chocolate Lava Cakes?
- Soufflé cups are ramekins, which are also known as soufflé cups.
