It has everything to do with it.″ As Buddy revealed in an interview with People magazine in October, he would have to go through a lot of physical therapy and maybe further surgery as part of his rehabilitation plan.Despite the fact that he is concerned about the implications of this for his future employment at Carlo’s Bakery, he considers himself ″fortunate″ that things did not turn out worse. It passed through his hand and through two fingers, but if it had been four inches lower, it would have struck his wrist and he may have bled to death, according to the outlet.″I’m not sure you realized how near you were, because it might have torn my fingers off. There was a lot that might have occurred.″ This material was generated and maintained by a third party and imported onto this website in order to assist users in providing their email addresses for further consideration.

Mary Alice Yeskey takes on a new role at Charm City Cakes
Yeskey, 34, has gone from being the show’s favorite commentator and office manager to serving as the marketing director of Charm City Cakes.Becoming a mother for the first time isn’t the only shift in her life.In the next several months, Goldman, a television celebrity, bakery entrepreneur, and one of Yeskey’s best friends, will expand his business by opening Charm City Cakes West in Los Angeles. The bakery is now closed.
His regular visits to Baltimore will continue, though, and will occur once a month.Yeskey is well aware that the Baltimore bakery will be different without Goldman’s daily presence on the premises.″I’ll surely miss seeing Duff on a daily basis,″ I said.″It does have a different vibe when he isn’t here,″ she adds.″It’s like a separate world.″ In his absence, ″it’s a lot calmer and less frenzied, but it also seems a little bereft of vitality.″ Goldman, who is in attendance at the staff meeting, emphasizes that he is not looking to open a bakery in Los Angeles per se.″We’re going to build a Baltimorean embassy,″ he explains.
- It is our intention to maintain our Baltimore spirit as a corporation and as individuals.
- As Yeskey’s coworkers—including creative director Anna Ellison and cake decorator Katherine Hill—assemble in the City of Angels, her job is to keep the fires in their respective Baltimore homes ablaze.
- ″The idea is to avoid diluting what we already have,″ she explains.
- ″The negative side effect of the show’s popularity and notoriety has been all of the false information that has been spread about us in our hometown.
- Some local wedding planners have said to me, ″Oh, I didn’t even aware you did cakes in Baltimore,″ and I have responded with, ″We are a local store.″ That’s what we’ve always done,’ and it’s my mission to make sure people are aware of it.″ Known for being fiercely articulate and organized, Yeskey is an obvious choice to promote the bakery, which has an atmosphere reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland’s looking glass, complete with artists, architects, and engineers wielding electric saws and blowtorches to create edible works of art in the bakery’s interior.
- ″She does a fantastic job of bringing Charm City Cakes into the real world,″ adds Goldman of the author.
- ″In here, we speak in our own language.″ ″We do something extremely unusual and different, and Mary Alice is particularly adept at conveying the strangeness of what goes on in here,″ says the author.
- Yeskey is compared to a secretary of state, according to Geof Manthorne, who will take over as the next owner of the Baltimore bakery.
The image of this area is so strongly associated with Duff, but Mary Alice is putting that out there, and she takes everything with grace, adds the author.Yeskey’s aim, in addition to continuing to build the Baltimore company, is to dispel common misunderstandings about the city.According to her, ″the cakes are not a million dollars.″ (Despite the fact that the minimum bespoke order is $1,000.) ″There is also no eight-year waiting list,″ says the author.
People mistakenly believe that we exclusively make cakes for ‘renowned people,’ which makes my heart hurt. There have been some really prominent individuals who have asked me to refuse, including Oprah, whose production company contacted on a Monday and requested that we be in Chicago with a cake on a Wednesday. It’s first-come, first-served when it comes to baking.″ (For the record, a cake for Oprah was finally created once the bakery was given more notice.) That is not to argue that Yeskey is unaffected by the presence on the show of celebrities and other notable figures. She recalls the day when the Cakes crew was preparing a cake for George Lucas, which happened approximately a year ago.″I’m a tremendous Star Wars fan,″ Yeskey recalls, a smile on her face as she recalls the past.
″Even though I couldn’t make a significant contribution to cake decorating, Duff told me, ‘You are coming with us,’ as if he knew that if I didn’t attend, I would quit my job!″ When I first met George Lucas, I couldn’t stop shaking; the whole experience was strange. It was my intention to tell Duff that he would never have to take me somewhere else again.″ Since meeting as undergraduate students at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, Goldman and Yeskey have been friends (UMBC).When people inquire as to whether he is concerned about hiring buddies, he cites to Yeskey as an example.″She recognized me from when we were watching The Lost Boys in the foyer of our undergraduate dorm at two a.m.,″ he recalls.″If anything is going on and I am not around to see it, there is no doubt that she has my back.″ Many years ago, Goldman was the one who had Yeskey’s back.
- In the autumn of 1994, she was a freshman at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, and Goldman was a sophomore who also worked for the university’s Office of Residential Life.
- Earlier in the year, Yeskey had brought her mother’s pearl necklace to school (something she had done without her mother’s knowledge), and her mother had watched in horror as she threw it down the drain of her dorm-room sink one morning.
- According to Yeskey, a Gaithersburg native whose brother Neil is the lead vocalist for the rock band Clutch, ″that was bad of me, but I didn’t believe she would miss it.″ She dashed to the front desk and filled out a maintenance request form in record time.
Goldman arrived at her home ten minutes after she had called.″With his tool belt and tie-dyed blouse, he had the appearance of a college student.″ ″He was a student, but one of his duties to help pay for his room and board was to be the’super’ of Chesapeake Hall,″ recalls Yeskey.″He was a hard worker, and he was a good friend.″ ″He was like, ‘You’ve got an issue with your sink,’″ I recalled.A split second later, the u-pipe was undone and my pearls were in his possession.
″After that, every time I saw him, I thought to myself, ‘There’s my idol.’″ When she was halfway through her sophomore year in 1995, Yeskey had transferred to the University of Maryland, College Park to continue her undergraduate degree in English, and she then went on to get a master’s degree in publishing design from the University of Baltimore. She and Goldman remained friends after the divorce.″Once I graduated from UMBC, that’s when we started exchanging e-mails and grew more closer,″ adds Yeskey.″We used to exchange these massive e-mails with one another.″ By 1998, Yeskey had completed his degree and was working for a charitable organization. However, after several years, she had grown dissatisfied with her employment position and was ready to leave.Yeskey confided in Goldman when he unexpectedly dropped by her office one day in 2005, and she burst into tears as she confessed that she despised her work.
- The visit was remembered fondly by Goldman, whose office manager had recently left him.
- ″A girl begins to sob, and what are you going to do?″ he asks rhetorically.
- ″I realized you needed assistance, so I said, ‘Do you want a job?’ ″I didn’t even know whether I could afford to give her the amount she requested.″ From the beginning, the two were a good match for one another.
- ″We have this bond that is similar to a brother-sister relationship with a little bit of an elderly married couple thrown in,″ says Yeskey of his and her relationship.
- ″When I worked in previous places, I needed to wear work clothes that I had to iron.
For one job, I had to remove my nose ring and cover up all of my tattoos on a daily basis, which made me feel like I was trying to be someone I wasn’t.Duff has realized everyone’s dream, which is to work in a field that you enjoy while spending time with all of your friends.″It’s like going to Disneyland.″ Yeskey’s job description does not include the responsibility of keeping her often excessively exuberant employer in line.According to Yeskey, one of the reasons his position is so ideal is because Duff needs someone who isn’t scared to tell him when he’s being a goofy.
″Usually, this has to do with his desire to incorporate pyrotechnics into cakes, such as the time we were making a cake for a military event despite the fact that the clients had specifically stated that fireworks were prohibited on the military base, but he insisted on doing it anyway,″ says the author.″ ″I informed him that I was not going to bail him out of military prison!″ Their off-camera connection is no different than their on-camera relationship.According to Goldman, ″Because we’ve been together for so long, we’ve developed a really wonderful connection with one another and are comfortable saying anything to each other—both on and off the set of television.″ ″I think we could have a lot of fun arguing, and it would come across as incredibly amusing.″ Without her, the program would not have accomplished even a tenth of what it did.She brought a new dimension to the show, bringing it full circle.
- The one who said, ‘Look at this room full of lunatics I’m stuck in,’ was the one who said it.
- ″She was the audience’s voice,″ he said.
- Indeed, Yeskey considers it a fortunate coincidence that the program was coming to an end just as she was ready to give birth to her first child.
- She is now content to act as a human hammock for Spencer, who slumbers contentedly over her chest in the three-bedroom Mayfield home she shares with her husband Dave, a network engineer, in which she now lives with Dave.
- As much as she appreciates the opportunity to travel with the show to locations such as the Lost in Hawaii set (where the crew delivered an island-shaped cake) and Lucas’s Skywalker Ranch (where the crew presented an R2-D2-shaped creation), she is looking forward to the new challenges that motherhood brings.
- ″It’s something everyone says, but it’s not something you realize until it occurs to you,″ she explains.
″It’s amazing how quickly so much material becomes unimportant.″This is the number one priority.″ As she reflected on the filming of the last episode of Ace of Cakes, in which the ensemble created a Back to the Future DeLorean time-machine cake to mark the film’s 25th anniversary, she says she’s learned a great deal from Goldman. As Yeskey describes it, ″Duff was standing there with Michael J.Fox, pointing out all the things on the cake.″ ″And all I was doing was standing there and observing.″ I’m not taken aback since I didn’t believe he was capable in the first place.
I’m more of a ‘How did this happen?’ type of person.Duff has instilled in me the importance of trusting my instincts. He has showed me what can happen if you close your eyes and take a leap of faith—I admire him for teaching me what can happen if you really put your heart and soul into something. And while though Yeskey is going to miss her face-to-face interactions with Goldman, she is confident that they will be in frequent contact.
According to her, ″we’ll be keeping in touch like crazy through email, text messaging, and other unpleasant means.″ ″Sending each other ridiculous images from our phones is already a favorite pastime of ours, and I can only imagine that habit being even more regular after he’s gone.″
