    1. Combine the rice flour, kosher salt, and hot water in a bowl. It should be the consistency of the combination shown in the photo:
    2. Cover it with plastic wrap, leaving a tiny opening at the top to allow steam to escape.
    3. Microwave for 2 minutes on high power.
    4. Using a rice scoop or a wooden spoon, combine the rice cake dough ingredients.
    5. Cook for another 2 minutes after re-covering with plastic wrap.

    1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the rice flour, kosher salt, and boiling water
    2. Prepare a steamer rack by lining it with parchment paper. Add the rice cake dough and cook for approximately 25 minutes on a high heat setting.
    3. Spread 12 tbsp. toasted sesame oil on a cutting board and set aside. Placing the hot rice cake in an oily place on the cutting board is a good idea. Using a pestle and mortar, pound it for approximately 5 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic. The remainder of the procedure is identical to the procedure for using a microwave oven.

    Prepare the rice cake for ddeokbokki by doing the following:

    1. Cut it into 8 equal pieces, and then roll out each piece into a rice cake that is 4 inches long and cylinder shaped

Rice Cakes Have a Long and Proven History of Popularity Rice cake popularity has a brief, recent history, despite the fact that rice cakes in one form or another have been in Japan, China, and Southeast Asia since ancient times. Since ancient times in Japan’s history, glutenous rice cakes such as mochi have been a customary feast-day treat and high-class delicacy for the upper classes. Short grain rice production, which was brought to Japan by Chinese and Korean immigration, was already well advanced as far back as 2000 years, according to historical records. Rice cakes with the widespread popularity that you mention are made from puffed rice kernels, which were first introduced by Dr. Alexander P. Anderson in 1904, after he accidentally came across the term ″puffing″ while trying to determine the water content of a single granule of starch. The first puffing machine was displayed at the World’s Fair in Saint Louis, Missouri, in 1904. His eight ″guns,″ which puffed grains for Fair attendees, were called ″The Eighth Wonder of the World″ by an advertising billboard poster, which was displayed on a billboard in the city. Once Anderson had discovered the puffing principle, technique, and technology, the competition to puff ready-to-eat American breakfast cereal took over the economy of Battle Creek, Michigan, with Kellogg’s and Quaker Oats being two memorable and still active names that survived the early puffing frenzy and are still in business today. Puffed rice cakes were the next item on the menu after the puffed morning cereal. The movement for health reform and the promotion of natural foods began in the late 1800s and was based mostly in Battle Creek. Dr. John Harvey Kellogg and his brother Will Keith Kellogg, the latter of whom is most known for his suggestion that sugar be added to Dr. Kellogg’s produced corn flakes, were two of the most influential people in the world throughout the twentieth century. Health food stores first opened their doors in the early to mid-1920s, with Philadelphia’s Martindale’s and New York’s The Original Health Food Store being among the first to open in their respective cities.
