Popular Trader Joe’s Desserts, Ranked Worst To Best
- Courtesy of Johnny Louis/Getty Images Nothing but a no-brainer when it comes to dessert: it is the greatest portion of the meal.
- There are, however, victors and losers in every category, including this one, no matter how sugar-coated it may appear.
- Trader Joe’s was a good example of this, as we discovered when we went through the aisles to try hundreds of sweets and evaluate them from worst to best.
- The frozen sweets, cake-y items, cookies, and, of course, copious amounts of chocolate were all crammed into our shopping basket in a well-balanced combination.
- Without chocolate, no dessert list would be complete, and don’t let anyone tell you differently.
- After putting out our best efforts (along with a lot of tooth cleaning in between), we came up with the definitive list of Trader Joe’s desserts, ranging from worst to best in terms of taste.
- No, dear readers, we are not going to lie when we say that this was not an unpleasant project to do.
- Even the slackers on this list were deserving of a shot.
- Are you prepared to experience the largest sugar high of your life?
- Turn up the music and get ready to start bouncing off the walls with your friends and family!
14. Trader Joe’s Molten Salted Butterscotch Macarons
- An ambitious delicacy, Trader Joe’s Molten Salted Butterscotch Macaron consists of two macaron halves sandwiched together with a salted butterscotch filling, the latter of which is molten.
- It is suggested that we microwave it for 40 seconds or simply eat it straight out of the freezer, according to the package description, which describes this frozen delight as a cross between a lava cake and a macaron.
- It sounds like a salted butterscotch dream come true, and that is exactly what this elegant-looking delicacy appears to be.
- Anything characterized as ″molten″ immediately draws our attention because it implies that it contains all of the warm, ooey-gooey qualities we look for in a dessert.
- What could possibly go wrong when you combine it with macarons?
- Unfortunately, in the case of these French-inspired biscuits, ″molten″ really means ″sort of burned taste,″ which is not what you want in a cookie.
- Even worse, the texture of the filling was not like as satisfying as the gooey delights of lava cake.
- Instead, the filling was lumpy and resembled pie filling in texture.
- The acrid flavor may have come from the microwave or the cookie itself, so we decided to try it with the second cookie without heating it up beforehand.
- Our astonishment when we discovered that the cold cookie was less tasty and much less pleasurable than the hot counterpart was unsurprised.
- TJ, you gave it your all on them, but we’re moving on to pastures more promising.
13. Trader Joe’s Peppermint Hot Chocolate
- Its Peppermint Hot Chocolate is described as having ″bittersweet chocolate shavings with a dash of natural peppermint taste,″ according to the company.
- This tin seems like the perfect companion to a night of cozy mysteries by the fire, thanks to the addition of nonfat milk powder in the mix to keep it creamy.
- The recipe also includes directions for making an iced version, so you can enjoy it all year round.
- We followed the directions and joyfully embraced a package of marshmallows (because what is hot cocoa without those jet-puffed pillows of happiness?) after mixing the dark powder with a glass of water.
- We were disappointed to find that following the directions resulted in a fairly watery chocolate that didn’t quite strike the spot.
- Increasing the amount of cocoa powder in the mixture simply served to accentuate the fake flavor of the peppermint.
- At one point, it appeared as though we were already cleaning our teeth while simultaneously consuming semi-sweet chocolate.
- Unfortunately, we had to come to the conclusion that Trader Joe’s Peppermint Hot Chocolate would not be making it to the top of our dessert list.
- Our marshmallows, for the love of God, deserve more than that!
12. Trader Joe’s Mango Joe-Joe’s
- Mango from Trader Joe’s Similarly, Joe-is Joe’s another option that once appeared to be a good one.
- Trader Joe’s customers are well aware that Joe-cookies, Joe’s on the whole, are a consistently delectable confection.
- These big sandwich cookies, filled with a considerable amount of cream filling, were TJ’s version of Oreos when they first appeared in the store.
- Besides those three, we like other Joe-flavors Joe’s such as chocolate, vanilla, and pumpkin spice (we realize this is a basic taste, but we don’t care).
- Keeping this in mind, we were really excited to try out these adorable Mango Joe-that Joe’s were packed so creatively.
- Simply looking at the box, which was covered with tropical foliage and a cheerful toucan, was enough to perk up our shopping carts and send us scurrying back home to try a cookie.
- For reaching its goals, Trader Joe’s deserves praise.
- Even though the mango taste is highly noticeable, it is done in an unusual Bath & Body Works style.
- It’s almost too aromatic and flowery, in a good way.
- But we couldn’t get beyond the overwhelming fruitiness of the mango filling in the cookies that sandwiched it, despite their typical great snap and excellent taste.
- When it came to these Mango Joe- Joe’s, we could only come to the harrowing conclusion that certain couples were simply never intended to be.
11. Trader Joe’s Mini Peppermint Meringues
- Mini Peppermints from Trader Joe’s A hint of peppermint flavour is added to these festive-looking droplets of whipped, solidified sugar and egg whites, giving them a charming, festive appearance.
- The meringues are sprinkled with tiny bits of peppermint candy, and the mere sight of these delectable delicacies is enough to cause a dopamine high.
- Until we opened the plastic cube to take a bite of the delights within, this tiny box of meringues appeared to be a kind present to us.
- These meringues weren’t that horrible, to be honest.
- In terms of flavor, they had a pleasant and fresh minty flavor that was well-supported by the creamy egg whites that were added into the meringue before baking.
- However, we were dissatisfied with the little airy nuggets that were served to us.
- However, even after indulging in four of them, we discovered that our sweet tooth was still unquenchable.
- Even bizarre was the portion size that was advised for them.
- Who would want to consume 11 of them in a single sitting?
- Following TJ’s serving size suggestions would result in a total of 19 grams of added sugars, which would have us going up the walls.
- These small sugar bombs would be best served as little after-dinner mints rather than as a whole dessert, in our opinion.
10. Trader Joe’s Panettone
- Carbohydrate enthusiasts, unite!
- Bring yourself out of hiding and say that you enjoy cakey and bready items!
- Trader Joe’s Panettone was on our list of sweets to try, and we wanted to share our findings with you so you can judge for yourself.
- Even while we enjoyed cutting into this tall round of fruit-filled bread (which has the appearance of a soft doll or mini-pillow), the flavor of this Italian treat was merely satisfactory.
- As these critics point out, the ribbons of fruit interspersed throughout the dish were more acidic than sweet.
- The yeast flavor in the bread may be too strong for some people, and it may only appeal to a select group of bread enthusiasts.
- Instead of the lush pudding-like texture we were hoping for, we got a sort of uneven dry bread with only a few raisins to save our parched tongues from total desiccation.
- We’ll take what we can get.
- Instead of this Panettone, we propose that you go for the tiramisu (which is ranked high on this list) if you’re organizing a genuine Italian meal complete with dessert for your guests.
- Please repeat after us: not all carbohydrates are created equal.
- For the time being, we’ll save our daily calories for the various cakey and bready treats listed below.
9. Trader Joe’s New York Deli Style Baked Cheesecake
- The Trader Joe’s New York Deli Style Baked Cheesecake blends two popular desserts (cheesecake and deli sandwiches) into a single, delicious mashup.
- At first view, the cheesecake appears to be a very straightforward dessert.
- There are no swirls over the top, as there are on Trader Joe’s frozen cheesecake pieces, which is a nice touch.
- Unlike TJ’s Key Lime Cheesecake, this cheesecake does not include any additional flavorings or toppings.
- There’s merely a fairly thick layer of cream cheese on top of a crumbly graham cracker crust on the bottom of the tartlet.
- We thawed it for an hour (it’s already cooked, according to the packet!) and then tucked right in.
- Like many other Trader Joe’s customers, our first response to the cream cheese was a mild distaste to the pasty texture of the cream cheese.
- Knowing that New York-style cheesecakes tend to be heavier on the cream cheese and thicker than the ordinary cheesecake, we were a little disappointed by the sticky pastiness of the first piece we tried.
- The cheesecake was a touch too sugary for my taste, but it was still delicious.
- We really had to take a break from the cheesecake because we were getting a little too excited about it.
- In light of the foregoing, we rate Trader Joe’s cheesecake a solid ″just okay.″
8. Trader Joe’s Vanilla Mochi
- Everyone understands that a very good vanilla can beat chocolate any day of the week.
- Vanilla ice cream that is equal parts creamy and smooth will make you swoon like the heroine at the conclusion of your favorite romantic comedy.
- To find out if these mochi can hold their own against chocolate, we scooped them up and tested them.
- Let me start by saying that the Vanilla Mochi from Trader Joe’s are just delightful.
- They come in a bag of six and have the plumpest, roundest, and most anime-like appearance of any dessert you’ve ever seen.
- Warning: taking them out of their egg-shaped containers may compel you to shout ″aww!″ before you can go to work on devouring these delicious vanilla ice cream bombs.
- When it came to tasting these mochi treats, however, we had mixed reactions, as did many others who tried them.
- We found the mochi to be a little too chewy for our tastes.
- It simply took too long to get to the ice cream parlor, which should have been the highlight of the evening.
- We were also disappointed that the vanilla flavor was not strong enough when we finally got our hands on some ice cream.
- When it comes to these adorable tiny mochi bites, we preferred them to be a little less showy and a little more flavorful.
- Even while we weren’t completely smitten with them, they could be worth a go if you want to be able to compare them to some of Trader Joe’s other great ice cream products (keep reading!).
7. Trader Joe’s Chocolate Lava Cake
- Trader Joe’s Trader Joe’s Chocolate Lava Cakes are exactly what they sound like: hot rivers of chocolate sauce surrounded by a layer of spongy chocolate cake on the outside and a layer of chocolate cake on the inside.
- Those who believe in the power of chocolate know that there is only one thing greater than chocolate, and that is double chocolate.
- In our excitement, we cooked up both cakes (there are two per packet, hallelujah!) in the microwave.
- While some chocolate enthusiasts were divided on the subject, we felt these fudgy sweets were very delicious.
- When I removed the cake from the microwave after 45 seconds, it was springy, fluffier, and warm, and the chocolate lava inside was gooey and delectable to the extreme.
- When it was all said and done, we found ourselves dabbing, no, licking, the last drips of chocolate sauce that remained on the plate.
- The second great thing about Trader Joe’s Lava Cakes is that you can customize them to your liking by adding your own toppings to make them more appealing to you.
- Adding strawberry compote, whipped cream, or even additional chocolate sauce to these chocolaty delights will take them to the next level of deliciousness.
- Because they’re quite plain-looking on the outside, you can dress them up for more formal occasions by adding a sprig of mint or a dab of raspberry sauce on top.
- Alternatively, Trader Joe’s pistachio-studded version is available.
- You just cannot go wrong with a box or two of them in your freezer, trust us on that!
6. Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups
- Keep an eye out, Reese’s admirers.
- Trader Joe’s is on its way to get you.
- Fortunately, it comes in the shape of delicious Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups, so you’re sure to have a good time along the way.
- They are bite-sized, like their counterparts from the world-famous Reese's Peanut Butter Cups line, but they are an upgraded version of the classic, with a rich dark chocolate shell and a smooth, peanut-buttery filling on the inside.
- Unfortunately, we’ve been burnt a few times by substandard batches of Reese’s, which have included stale chocolate and, in some cases, dry, flaky peanut butter on the interior.
- The case is not the same as the Trader Joe’s version.
- We sank our sugar-coated ivories into every single sweet in the box, which was rich and gratifying, the ideal blend of taste and texture, and a pleasure to eat.
- With the expectation that we will not tire of these chart-topping sweets anytime soon, we have assigned them a permanent spot on our Trader Joe’s buying list for the time being.
- We strongly advise you to follow suit.
- The only problem is that Trader’s Joe’s upgraded version of the sweet will forever change your perception of classic Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.
5. Trader Joe’s Cookie Butter Products
- What do we even begin to say about the Cookie Butter items from Trader Joe’s?
- Speculoos are a type of cookie that many cookie enthusiasts are already familiar with.
- This recipe is for Belgian shortbread cookies prepared with wheat flour that have a gingery, spicy edge to them that will have you begging for more like a thirsty dog on a hot day.
- When it comes to Trader Joe’s, they take things even farther by squeezing the cookies into a creamy, buttery spread that’s almost as good as peanut butter (but better).
- All of the extremely popular Trader Joe’s Cookie Butter items have been grouped together because they are simply so delicious.
- Our favorite treats are the Cookie Butter Sandwich Cookies, Speculoos Cookie Butter Cheesecake Bites, Speculoos Cookie & Cocoa Swirl, and Speculoos Cookie Butter Ice Cream, to name a few.
- They are all distinct in their own right, but they are all bound together by a ribbon of lip-smackingly delicious cookie butter that runs through them all.
- The spread is delicious on toast and works wonders as a frosting for any of your baking projects.
- The cheesecake bites are a delicious one-dish dessert that may be prepared in advance.
- The warm, comforting flavor of the cookies brings back memories of childhood holidays, and the velvety ice cream allows you to enjoy Speculoos-spiked goodies all year long if you so choose (which we do!).
- What are you waiting for, if you haven’t already gone on board the cookie butter bandwagon?
- There’s always place for one more cookie butter product in your cupboard, as seen by the large number of Cookie Butter goods available on our website.
- We’ll meet again on the other side.
4. Trader Joe’s Mango & Cream Bars
- Trader Joe’s is a grocery store chain in the United States.
- What do you remember about those lazy summer days when there was nothing better to do than lie around on the grass and munch on a quickly melting creamsicle?
- They were the ultimate of satisfaction: a mouth-watering combination of fruity ice cream filled with a cooling scoop of vanilla ice cream, topped with a cherry on top.
- It was well worth the brain freeze and sticky fingers that always ensued as a result.
- According to Peter Pan, growing up isn’t all awful, especially when you’ve got a box of Trader Joe’s Mango & Cream Bars in your freezer to munch on while watching a movie.
- These treats, which are essentially an adult gourmet version of the Creamsicle, feature a powerful mango flavor that is perfectly tempered by a creamy ice cream middle.
- It’s important to consume these bars quickly since there is no popsicle stick to keep them from melting in your hands.
- These bars, which are a fan favorite, demonstrate that life gets better as you get older.
- At the very least, the food does.
- Anyway, with just 50 calories and the added bonus of being gluten-free, these Mango & Cream Bars are well worth your time, no matter your age.
3. Trader Joe’s Matcha Green Tea Ice Cream
- Trader Joe’s is a grocery store chain in the United States.
- Matcha, matcha, matcha.
- How do we express our affection for thee?
- Let’s see how many ways there are.
- For starters, you provide us with a caffeine boost without the accompanying caffeine crash.
- Two, you get this earthy, somewhat sweet, slightly bitter taste that is reminiscent of dark chocolate — if you will, the tea equivalent of dark chocolate.
- Three, you’re just transcending in the shape of a delicious ice cream.
- When we tried Trader Joe’s Matcha Green Tea Ice Cream, we couldn’t help but give thanks to the dessert gods once more.
- We were already big fans of matcha, so we were overjoyed when we took this chilly tub home from the supermarket.
- The ice cream itself has a gorgeous subdued green matcha hue, has a creamy smoothness, and has a flavor that is out of this world.
- Some customers have stated that it is even better than the green tea ice cream that can be bought in most Asian grocery stores.
- We can’t help but agree with what you say.
- This matcha ice cream is of excellent quality and contains a strong flavor of true matcha.
- In contrast to the soapy or too bitter flavors found in many matcha ice creams, Trader Joe’s delicately flavored matcha is the right combination of earthy and sweet flavors.
- For those who are new to matcha, this is a wonderful one to start with because the matcha flavor comes through clearly without being cloying or overpowering.
2. Trader Joe’s Tiramisu Torte
- Our pasta-loving hearts may finally rest.
- We didn’t believe it was possible, but we’ve discovered the genuine deal in Trader Joe’s Tiramisu Torte, which has received ra
